Nope I haven't I've de-badged the rear of mine and filled in the little annoying holes lol I'm just trying to clean up bits of the bodywork which is annoying me right now.

Mines a Phase 1 Clio that I put the 172 Body kit on, I got it on here off a member for £160 all in (Front, Rear Bumpers, Both Wings, and Side Skirts ) and it took me 5 hours alone to fit the front bumper because the mounting brackets are different under the bonnet in the center....

Im not a confident mechanic myself and never dabbled with that part on my car.. yet lol but I would say the more you ignore it the worse it gets, the harder it is to get into gear. So get it to a mechanic asap whilst you still can. A linkage isn't too expensive I should have thought

Ok I painted mine red (on a red car)
Used Halfrauds on High heat brake paint (comes in little tins like the sample tins from b&q) and put 3 coats on... That was in may? Still red :)

If you dont have the Tool to remove it, Id suggest what JackJack said
Drill the head off, remove your plate, drill the rest of the screw out the hole then re-tap to the size of screw/machine bolt you want to use
