Okay, CV boots are deffinatly not split or loose, seems to be a bit of play in the offside wheel (in comparison to the nearside) so it looks like Chris was right, will let ya know if the mechanic agrees with you though ;) Cheers for your help folks..

I did a quick visual inspection on the CV boots a couple days back and they didnt look split/no leaking grease etc. I will go down just now and have a proper look at the CV joints just to make sure. I will give the jacking the car and wiggling the wheel a go too. Will let you know what I find.
