Yeah, if you disconnect the negative battery lead, the car should keep running because the alternator should be providing all the electric your engine needs to keep running.
A guy showed me this trick when I had my Nova SR
Check all the earth points on the engine to body, theres one behind the nearside front arch liner that gets a bit manky.
If thats not it, it could be a faulty relay or ignition switch.
Im a sparky, but Im always fiddling with auto electrics aswell
Dave
Yep, sounds like its dead to me.
If it was the battery, the alternator would provide all the power you need for all the electrics in your car.
You should be able to get a recon one for about £60. you might aswell change the fanbelt while youre getting it done.
Dave
According to the guy I took my car to, he recons its an 8 hour job to do the cam belt.
Not quite sure about the other bits hes mentioned, the rocker cover gasket, you could do yourself. The gasketll set you back about £25 from Renault and you can do it in around 30mins.
The guy at the garage...
Ive got a set of OSRAM bulbs from www.powerbulbs.com">www.powerbulbs.com for about £20.
Theyre megga brite, and you get a set of sidelight bulbs for free.
Yeah, I have clear plastic at the back of my dials, so I opted for white numbers (so I could fiddle about, putting diferent coloured LEDs in whenever I felt like it).
Thats why my dials are blue now, but used to be white.
The plastic at the back of the dials can either be orange or clear plastic, fortunatly for me mine was clear so whatever colour bulb you put in, will show through white or clear backing on the dials.
The metalmonkey dials that Ive fitted to my car went in pretty easy, the only tricky part is...
Im pretty sure youll be able to get them to fit.
Most of the instrument panels plastic, so you should be able to chopp it up a bit.
Send some pictures when its all done.
Yeah I changed the bulbs for LEDs, just a straight swap.
The dark areas of the dials are because LEDs only produce a 30 beam of light, so you dont get as much area lit as you would with normal bulbs.
The only other problem is that the LEDs dont produce enough light to illuminate the needles...

I bought the small blue LEDs ( for the oil guages ) from Ebay for £15, and the LEDs for the main dials I got from my local motorist discount shop www.speeding.co.uk">www.speeding.co.uk , you have to get the quad super brite LEDs or you dont get much light, these cost a little bit more £24.98...

Heres the main dials.
Ive just done mine, but Ive changed the dials for metal monkey ones with white numbers, then I fitted blue LEDs and it looks the bollox on a night time.
I should imagine itll work, the only problem youll have is the speedo drive in the gearbox.
Or if you can make something so that the transducer will fit the clio speedo drive.
Its only 3 wires that go to the transducer to the speedo, so you dont need the loom, just make sure youve got the...
Heres mine (sorry about the picture quality).

I got the proto-type set for my car for £45, but full price theyre £90.
Expensive I know, but well worth the money.
You can get any colour you want for the numbers.
If the back of your dials are clear (like mine), this is a big bonus because the colour you choose for your numbers, is the...
I was thinking of doing something like that with my car.
Probably got to a scrap yard, find a Laguna, or something Renault, buying the hubs, and seeing if I could graft them on to my car ( the brakes would probably be better aswell).
