Does anyone know of any companies that would be able to make me up a one off panel, I've been searching the internet and not having a great deal of luck.
Cheers
I'm pretty sure it has got 1 sensor for both as its the only sensor in the cooling system.
The thing is I have 2 wiring diagrams for clio, but neither are for a phase 1 172. One shows a sensor with 2 wires, one with 4! I've managed to wire in the rest of the car fine, I'm handy with electrics...
Right, doing the 172 into valver project, but the 172 temporature sensor wiring has got me really scratching my head!
The valve has a seperate temp sensor for the temp gauge, 2 wires, 5 volts in one, 1 volt in the other simple as you like.
But, the 172 has 3 wires in it! 2 in from the ecu, 5...
No, no we're not kidding it is all coming back out as this is just a dry build then it's being taken back to a rolling shell, sound deadening removed from the floor, Roll cage in and new (sunroofless) Roofskin and a full repaint in white at my work.
Rad brackets wise I'll pm you the Diagram we...
More developments!
After a day in the garden we've got a bit more done.
We've piped the cooling system up using an adaptor from demon tweeks.
And once we'd done the clips up it was water tight! :o
Then next job was to get the alternator charging (eagle eyed may have noticed on the cluster...
Pm'd you Wayne and if anyone else needs to know just give us a shout and i'll explain. Patrick most the parts used are standard phase 1 172 parts that includes gearbox engine mounts etc.
Cheers
MAJOR DEVELOPMENT!
SHE'S A RUNNER!
After 2 weeks away being decoded we got our ecu back. We connected up the ecu and fuel lines, turned the key,
heard the fuel pump run, pulled the fuel line off the rail to check we'd connected them correctly, got covered in fuel, checked the feed to the coil...
Can't remeber if it was you I was speaking to but i'm running a 172 box in mine and it does hang in the valver mount but it doesn't look safe as the mount barely braces the last 1" of the thread. 172 one is easily moddified to fit the valver though.
Glad you got to the bottom of the problem you had me worried mine was gonna give me the run around. You say your now doing lots more to the car sounds like your project is getting as out of hand as mine lol. Never really end builds like this do they:dapprove:
Further progress report. Spent a couple of evenings on the wiring and it doesn't seem to be too much of an involved job. I've got the majority done, it turns over and if we had the ecu back from decoding I think it should run.
I am desperatly in need of some wiring diagrams for the engine loom to body loom in a phase 1 clio 172 and a k plate 1.8 16v. We've bought dialogies off ebay, but it seem worse than useless when it comes to wiring diagrams. We need them to match up the looms on the 2 cars for the engine...
Thanks for the support fella's makes battling the questionable weather conditions more sufferable. the exhaust is still on the to do list but I shall probably cut the last quarter inch off the manifold and weld it on angled down slightly then get a downpipe made up. haven't thought about an...
As we said we're waiting on wiring diagrams off ebay at the moment but when they're here my brother (Merc technician) is gonna get straight on it and has said he'll be more than happy to write you out a wire by wire guide as he goes.
UPDATE!!
Just a quick progress report.
Wednesday night we finally got the flywheel back from lightening and balancing (half a kilo lighter). Put a new clutch in, fitted the gearbox and swung the 172 lump into the valver.
Since then we've got the subframe, most the brakes and suspension...
We used the valver alternator becuase it works better on the aduster bracket as they're from a similar era (my brother dropped the 172 alternator, braking pulley, and making the decision easier) Lol.:quiet:
Neighbours don't seem too fussed as I don't live in the most afluent area:)
The valve...
The Flywheel is at a local engine engineering shop being lightened and balanced to give it a livelier throttle response and i'm planning to get it chipped and rolling roaded but other than that it's pure driving fun i'm after. Other plans though are full lightening (sound deadening etc) full...
This conversion is obviously becoming popular but we're very pleased with our work all the same. What started as a simple tart up, mot and track day hasnow started to turn into a full on project starting with...
We were lucky enough to source a phase 1 48k donor car, cheers steve...
Brilliant Fella, coming along nicely very reassuring too as i'm about 1 stage behind you in doing exactly the same lol (we should start an owners club!). My clio's all stripped and I've just done clutch and belts on the 172 lump. in which way was the manifold too short I'm shopping for a 182 one...
Just been thumbing through the haynes manual for the old clio I have and the old MK1 RSI runs a pivoting alternator, does anyone know whether it'll bolt to my block?
Odd questions but what engines share the basics of the engine block with the 172 lump? Clio williams, Rsi, 16v, espace, safrane, laguna etc? I know the capcities will be different but i ask as I'm trying to source an alternator setup that uses a pivoting alternator to tesion belt as i've ditched...
