    cambelt problems (local garages)

It does? Mine was done with nothing by the cam locking tool originally. (Sometimes you just need to make the best of what you have :/ ) This was checked afterwards with the cam locking tool slotting in freely. This was checked again 3 months later, the timing was checked with the cam locking...

    CLIO 197 GEARBOX

It doesn't matter that it isn't covered under warranty - you are protected by your consumer rights. But you need to start this very quickly. Effectively (according to the sale of goods act) any fault that is found within the first six months of owning the car is pretty much automatically...

If you had to change your cambelt, would you get anything else done?

I listened to the same crap on here. 3 months later my waterpump started leaking and seeing as the crank pulley had to come off to do it, half the effort that goes in to the cambelt was put into doing just the waterpump all over again. The pump costs peanuts and is definitely worth doing IMO.

    2003 172 cup gearbox problems

Yes. If it was any less, I'd have had my box done rather than buying a second hand box.

Middle aged driving w*nkers (pointless RANT)

Heh, I love the attitude. The irony is of course that had the Jag driver decided to get out and give you a kicking, he would have had every right to in the eyes of the law - reasonable force to prevent you from striking back as he got in the car is quite a bit of force ;)

I was quoted over £400 for an inspection and diff bearings replaced.

    2003 172 cup gearbox problems

IIRC, you won't come out the better side of £400 to have Agency do your box - that's not forgetting the £300 you're likely to spend having the gearbox removed and refitted at even the cheapest garage. It's surely worth a quick look at the linkage and/or clutch first, too?

Middle aged driving w*nkers (pointless RANT)

Of course, all of this is irrelevant as we all know the OP started this whole debacle by getting up the Jag's behind as soon as he cut across lanes.

Middle aged driving w*nkers (pointless RANT)

You two are missing the point completely. It has nothing to do with looking down on people, it's about having the sense to remove yourself from a situation that is only going to get worse. Case in point: Had the OP removed himself from the situation as soon as the Jag driver decided to...

Middle aged driving w*nkers (pointless RANT)

It's got nothing to do with who is in the wrong. It's about who has the intelligence to remove themselves from the situation which can only possibly get worse. Just getting out of your car and shouting at him or banging on his window is a Public Order offence (Causing harassment, alarm or...

Middle aged driving w*nkers (pointless RANT)

How can you be so sure? All it takes is for him to phone the police with your reg, his wife to confirm his story and you've got an instant date with the Magistrates. The fact he stopped on the rail crossing is irrelevant at this point, as nowhere in the law does it allow for someone to take...

Middle aged driving w*nkers (pointless RANT)

and I'll enjoy my driving licence and clean record while you're either sat in prison or on a bus after the next time someone does this to you. The thing is, however angry you may be, how much worse are you going to feel when the consequences of your actions are losing your licence, a fine or...

Middle aged driving w*nkers (pointless RANT)

If he undertook you, I doubt it was your speed that was the issue, but rather the fact you were sat in the outside lane while there was clearly space on the inside.

Middle aged driving w*nkers (pointless RANT)

Being a railway crossing, it's a little more serious and I believe they are always covered by CCTV? Saying the Police won't do anything is not justification to get out of your car and start punching other cars, trying to drag their owners out etc. It's just a fast track way to lose your licence...

Middle aged driving w*nkers (pointless RANT)

Why not just remove yourself from the situation? The moment he forced you to stop on the railway you should have taken his registration number and called the police. You are never rewarded for being the "big man". In fact, quite the opposite - the big man is the one that always ends up in...

Buying a brand new 200 from Renault...

If I could find one for £199 a month, Id probably chop in my 182 tomorrow. I don't think I've averaged much less than that a month in repairs and maintenance on the 182. At the end of the day, owning any car costs money. Usually when buying something new or nearly new you are trading some of...

    Losing water

You need to get under the bonnet/car and look for any visible leaks. I believe mayo on the oil cap is quite common on the 1.2 16v? Although it can be perfectly innocent on any car, especially at this time of year, or when it isn't used for long periods of time, as condensation can form inside...

Running but sounding very unhealthy, With vid.

Yet I managed to do my own without issue, which was later re-done by a generic garage when doing my waterpump, again without issue. You said yourself, a specialist messed yours up - it just highlights the point that anyone can mess it up, but as long as you have half a clue and check your work...

Running but sounding very unhealthy, With vid.

Just choose a competent garage that is local - there is absolutely no need to travel two hours to have a cambelt done. The Clio isn't the only car with an F4 engine, nor is it the only car with a dephaser pulley. Read up on the information yourself and just quiz any potential garages on their...

Running but sounding very unhealthy, With vid.

While it kind of sounds like the de-phaser, it certainly doesn't look like it. My dephaser was making one hell of a racket, but it did not impact running in the slightest.

Removing PAS Pump for electric item

I have absolutely no interest in running my current rack (or pump for that matter) unpressurised. I'm leaning toward the manual rack option, if I'm honest. My rack is also making funny knocking noises, so I'd be killing two birds with one stone. I've been searching around for the info without...
