The amount of torque steer dealt out by my mums old 2.0 480 was unreal! Even on a motorway, just playing with the accelerator made it change lanes! Crazy! :p
It was a strangely quick car too, but nobody wanted to admit it as we all thought it looked so damn ugly! But youre on to...
Very Tasty! Really like the new rims Jas, have you had to lower it at all as they seem to sit nicely... Not a million percent sure about the colour coded bump strips and clear side repeaters though, but each to their own eh?!?
Unfortunately, my desk became the focal point of the office while I was... err... reviewing your footage craggy! Everyone was like "The guy with the cameras a pervert!" then "Put the next one on" - you know how it is! Didnt really spot many cars though...
And Dash!!! What the...
Yeah, I was surprised at just how well-organised our Donnington trackday was Mike - most people were behaving themselves and doing as instructed in the briefing, but Id certainly not want to risk a nice shiny Clio V6 on track without insurance!!! I got insurance through Competition Car Insurance...
The Cooper S was totally standard I believe - amazing that it put out 16bhp over BMWs quoted figures though (I wish Clios did that well)!!! Yeah, the 172s seemed low, but at least they were all about the same though. And hey! I got 162 if were rounding off to the nearest! (161.8bhp) Grrr..... ;)...
I had Corbeau bucket seats (Forza model I think) in my mini a few years ago - they were a one-size-fits-all type seat (although they barely fitted inside the mini!) with just different subframes for the different applications. I think theyll fit just fine, but probably best ask someone else...
I really hate my F1s and Im giving em grim death to try and get rid of them ASAP!!! Like you said Simon, the car just fealt boaty from word one, and mine has only really got a little better over the last few thousand miles (probably because Ive got used to them). With the Michelins on...
I assume TB1 is out with Virgil and Scott on some kind of rescue mission involving Lady Penelope and a highly unlikely logging machine / supersonic jet plane. In the meantime TB11 is standing in... :)
:@Shower of bast*rds!!! (Renault that-is):@
Well, after asking Renault what was wrong with my car (again) and getting blank faces and "they all sound like that" responses, I took my car round to my uncles garage - within minutes they had found the cause of this f*cking harshness as I rev the...
Im in sunny Chesterfield, Derbyshire - Im tempted to give it a go this weekend at changing the oil myself (depends what the weathers like ) - might pop in to Renault and get a new filter - if theyre not too busy Ill get them to do it for me though ;)
Matt
Ben - youve got me worried dood - Im certainly not trying to abuse it - should I change the oil ASAP or not? Theres only 2000 miles til my 36000 mile service, but the RR day will be before then... What to do?!?!
Robby - I think theyre what passes for chicken in most chip shops - I know this from a drunken pit-stop at a local chippy, resulting in a purchase of said southern fried chicken (air quotes necessary for legal reasons) which later resulted in a tree full of chicken (dont ask)
Good work...
Jonathan - yeah, mine was covered under that technical note (early Mk1 inTitanium) and its had a new cambelt about 20000 miles ago - that quietened it down a bit, but it seems to be coming back! :(
pmitchell - I did wonder about changing the oil sooner, but its a modern engine and its supposed...
Argh! This thread has gone mad!
I have 0w40 oil if that makes any difference.
I meant the plastic cover on the engine - the one that stops you seeing anything useful like brake fluid levels and the like...
I did the track day a few thousand miles ago and its ready for a 36000 mile service...
I dont think youre saying anything controversial there Rhys! I always understood that a 172 was slightly quicker in a straight line (which has now been disproved!?) and that the Williams was quicker through the corners. You take your pick really...
Ive noticed that my engine is getting increasingly more noisy - everything sounds fine below about 3000rpm, but above that its starting to sound really coarse and raw. Theres no discernable extra knocking noises or anything, but it just sounds really sh*t, and also really belt-noisy (I always...
LOL @ Craggy... Im not a tw*t with mine! (Well, not on purpose anyway). Sounds stupid, but why not try go-karting as a first step - the higher speed ones are excellent fun and you can try to hold the oversteer through corners (NOT EASY in a go-kart in my opinion! - you need super-quick...
If you can afford it, a track day or an advanced driving day would be best - I think TelfordMike and some others from here went on one and found it seriously enlightening (although very harsh on their cars!). Worth noting though that organisers of track days generally dont like it if they have...
My mate had a 2.0 16v SRi Cavalier (N reg) and when we went out for a blast in mine, he got out the car sweaty, giggling and giddy - he couldnt believe how fast it was - if a valver is honestly a similar performance to a 172 (which it supposedly is  ) then it shouldnt have a problem...
I think your willy looks great rhys. All that time buffing has turned it a really nice dark blue colour...
The question - can anyone else get more innuendo out of this willy gag or not?
Phew!, I was thinking I must be the only one around here that doesnt really rate F1s too much... Since I put mine on about 4k ago, the car has felt a lot grippier but also a lot less agile - everythings gone a bit dull, and I cant wait for them to wear out! Thinking of going back to Michelins -...
Cheers mate - at least I know that I was tinkering with the right bolt - it seemed really tight but it sounds like it might be an idea to take it off and examine it...
Matt
I actually got my act together and had a look for this engine mount the other day (after moaning about it for a couple of years). Anyhow, I took out the airbox and the battery and still couldnt find the ruddy thing! Any other clues (ie is it on top or underneath the gearbox?)
Cheers!
Matt
ak_uk - Im also a bit suprised that my shocks might be a little tired already - but Ive done about 32000 miles now and the handling just generally feels a bit inert and less tight... Im thinking its either shocks or bushes and I remember a while back that quite a few Mk1 owners had shocks...
Im on the verge of ordering some coilovers and getting my 172 used for some more track days this year - just cant quite decide whether to spend £500 on coilovers or put together a little more and get -30mm springs, viper and (hill power)chip... Decisions, decisions...
Im a bit...
Nope... Youve lost me... Whats this about your immasculation and getting beaten off at traffic lights? Im too young for this thread - it should carry an 18 certificate or something
