Cheers Paddy, Ill poke my head under and see if I can get the heat shields to touch the system at all - Im thinking about a replacement exhaust system anyway, so maybe thisll encourage me to spend some cash on it for a change!
Ive had a kind of jingling noise on my 172 at 5000rpm+ since new (over 2 years ago) - just as you describe, mine seems to come from around the middle of the car... Ive never got Renault to admit theres any sort of problem, Ive had it rolling roaded and superchipped - theres apparently nothing...
CUPSIZE - nope, the two versions are available because the 120KW version attracts a lower rate of tax or something - there were posts about it ages ago (people got worried that their imports might be the lower output versions). They are not the 172/Cup and these supposed (non-existent) power...
Hmmm.... you say silly, but thats exactly what my local Renault dealer did to my 172s auxiliary belt when I complained it was noisy!!! After emptying their can of WD40 onto it, I have to admit it sounded much better!
Tricky... The insurance is technically one group lower but its actually in group 16D which means it carries a hefty loading, and its also worth more than the Williams. You might find it costs around the same at the end of the day... Why not try one of the online insurers to get a quick quote...

Like everyone says - grab a bevvy, chill out and give it some time - your gf will come round, shes probably just a bit shocked as shes not seen that side of you before. Im sure Id have done exactly the same thing (or at least tried to - Im a bit on the wimpy side and probably wouldve got a...
I spent most of one Saturday buffing (ooh-err) all the aluminium bits around the engine with some anti-oxidant metal cleaner, and it looked soooo fappin good - until it all oxidised again a couple of weeks later! Ive now given up on the engine bay, especially since the power steering fluid...
 Thanks Mike, thats the nicest thing anyones ever said to me... Well, nearly...
Anyhow, I think with your new Magic Tree power (good for at least +10bhp), youll be showing me a clean (and fresh) pair of heels. Bugger. Got to get my ClioSpor (missing the last t) sticker slapped on my car...
Abbs172 - you can fit whatever filter you like and they cant invalidate your warranty unless they supply replacement filters for free (which they dont) - thats the law! :)
As for track work potentially invalidating your warranty - I would doubt it, as Renault market the cup at track day...
<flame suit on>
Am I the only person thinking this is utter rollocks? Dont mean to cause any offense, but here goes!...
a) You cant compare outputs off different rollers!!!
Case in point: I got 131.5bhp ATW at John Nobles in Chesterfield over a year ago - yet I could...
Wow! :o I really hope not, but are you absolutely sure as Im really tempted to remove the rear seats completely and Ive got this nagging feeling that theyll say its modified - (they specifically asked how many seats it has, so I thought that removing 3 of them might not go down well!)
I...
LMAO @ dash! :D
I think youll find its an insect-o-cutor thingy though - it attracts all the bugs away from the paintwork, meaning his car-washing time is cut in half...
I think the Renault Sport ECU everyones been on about recently is the one for the Cup - which means it wont work with a Mk1 172 as it will be for cars with a fly-by-wire throttle, as opposed to our good-old cable throttle... Besides, knowing how quickly these Cup upgrades have started to appear...
If youre worried about build quality, I wouldnt be... My brothers had way more trouble with his new Golf than Ive had with my 2 year old 172 - in fact he rejected 2 Golfs before he found one thatd not been screwed together by a primate on acid.
Gearbox-wise, mine has always graunched a little...

When I bought my old RSi the locking nut on one of the wheels was shagged and wouldnt budge - I ended up drilling it out (great)... All I can say is, if you take your time and work from a tiny pilot hole in the dead centre of the nut, then you shouldnt have any problems... Just keep...
Which logo? Those are the same dials as a Mk1 172 and V6. I think youre right though Paddy - this one is supposed to be off a V6 as the file is in a V6 directory on someones website... Ive had mine showing the same though when it performs its diagnostic thingy - and as Cord-172 said above, thats...
Errr? Thats what you get if you turn on the ignition with the computer button pressed in isnt it? Either that or someones installed a really bad final drive or a sixth gear maybe?
LMAO @ Zidan!!! A slimmer girlfriend? :o I wouldnt let her hear you saying that mate!!!
If I could live without the rear seats I think Id ditch those - Rhys took his out on his Mk2 and reckoned they were pretty heavy... Thinking of getting an AP-22 so I can do some before and after runs with...
Colour me jealous mate! Seriously nice car, devastating performance and I think it looks damn hot too (each to their own, eh? :D). If theres a passenger ride up for grabs, count me in!!!
Matt
Started doing this myself to my old RSi (discs all round) and found that the bearings (certainly the back ones) required pressing into the discs with a few tonnes of force!!! This also means its a ba*tard to get the old bearings out of the discs if you want to keep them... I gave up on it and...

Ive had exactly the same parts fitted to mine (Titanium Mk1 172 - Sept 00) but I got mine done under warranty - it was at about 18k miles I think - Id complained it was very noisy since about 5k miles and every time I took it in they said there was no problem - they eventually caved in...
