    thank you tesco

Yeah, I stuck on a Devil system the other day - phoned Tesco and no charge too! :) Apparently the zorst sounds great from outside the car and not unreasonably loud, but Ive now removed the back box and replaced it with the standard item because it was just so boomy inside the car at motorway...

Is there a legal limit on exhaust noise

Ahh, so as long as I dont do circuits of the local cop-shop giving it a good leathering I might be okay?! ;) Cheers Ben! (once again!)

Is there a legal limit on exhaust noise

About to fit my Devil unsilenced centre-section and un-homologated back-box, but I got worried when I saw that the centre-section has a sticker that says not for road use on it - is this because itll be feck-off loud and therefore illegal or what? I know the de-cat is officially illegal, but...

    Devil de-cat, centre-section and box

I bought mine in mid 2000 brand new and its got the twin-cat jobbie, so definitely the older ones had it - no idea really about the new ones as Ive not seen one...

    Devil de-cat, centre-section and box

Thanks Ben! I was under the impression that only the Mk1s with lightweight bonnets (ie the early ones - pre 01) came with the twin-cat, but hey, who cares! Im really getting worried about the loudness, but if its too bad, I can apparently just stick the old back box on and it should quieten...

    Devil de-cat, centre-section and box

Got so naffed off with the rattly centre-section that Renault fail to do anything about (despite me moaning about it for the last 3 years) that I decided to go for a Devil de-cat, unsilenced centre-section and un-homolgated back box. (Im concerned it may be a bit loud, but well see :)) Stupid...

    coil overs or lowering springs

Well, this is the only side-on piccie Ive got of Mikes car, taken at Donnington last year (:D) - its not too good but you can see how his wheels seem to fill the arches much better than my Mk1 (all standard BTW). http://erc.qmuc.ac.uk/cliosport/file.php?image=1057010258__DSC00100.jpg Hope...

    ktec cat replacement!!!

Sounds cool, but how does it pass emissions tests if there is no cat? I think Im being thick (again) but I dont get it. Im also naffed off with my jingling buzzy blowing exhaust that Renault insist is fine (its not) but I dont want to pay out on another Renault jobbie and get the same...

    MK1 172 = Slightly scary handling

Fair enough mate, I certainly wasnt trying to suggest that the 172 Mk1 was a truly great handling hatch (which the Williams and 205GTi are IMHO), but when it came out its chassis was universally raved about in every review Ive seen. Personally, I find that it rolls too much which makes you think...

    GORDON LAMB CHESTERFIELD

I went there a couple of weeks ago so I know who youre on about and this made me LMAO! :D They did pretty much the same thing to me - I had my 36000 mile service, told Matt a list of half a dozen things that were wrong, he rung me up later to say that they agreed they were broken but I should...

    MK1 172 = Slightly scary handling

Ya big girls blouse Rhys! ;) Theres nothing wrong with the standard setup if all the shocks are in good condition and the trackings straight... Ive certainly had no problems hustling round the track in mine - even overtook an old shaped Elise as it was getting out of shape round the Craner...

    Worth Upgrading to F’1s

Do a search for them mate - this question has been asked before and not everyone rates em. I had new F1-GSD3s fitted all round about 12000 miles ago and thought my shocks had died or something - it felt really boaty and lifeless compared to the OE Michelins I had on before that. They have loads...

    Woohoo! New car!

Yeah, I only did the one impromptu run to 120 (well, limiter in 4th anyway - which is just shy of 120 IMHO). You try 4th at 110 and youll see what I mean - its just revving the knackers off it and not accelerating too fast - I think 5th may be a better bet by that speed? 4th really seems to have...

    Woohoo! New car!

...or 127 as 2 live would like us to believe... Yeah, £550 seemed a bit rich to me too, but I had to have shocks, rear discs and pads plus a fook load of other stuff too and adding Renault labour costs it all added up. I wish mine was 100% mint still :( - my lightweight bonnet and...

    Woohoo! New car!

Nice swan Rhys! Good choice of mota if I do say so myself... Mine wouldve been a W reg too, but I hung out a month and got them to register it in Sept 00 as an X reg instead. Anyhow, check youve got an alloy spare wheel as all the pukka UK cars from that period came with one and I dont think the...

    Msg For Rhys

I used to own a 93 RSi a couple of years ago (before the 172) - it was a pretty decent mover and I was quite happy with it until I blew it up on the way to look at the 172! Oops... You might be better off selling the RSi and investing in a 16v if you want more power - that way you wont...

    172 vs mini coopers

I can say for certain that the 172 (Mk1) is faster than a Cooper S - as Ive actually raced one up a slight gradient for about 2 miles!!! Its not like youll destroy it or anything (its a chuffing fast car at the end of the day!) but its certainly slower.

    LMFAO!

172man - mine has days when it feels like 172bhp, then others where it feels like a few of the horses have died or something?!! It honestly feels like a 120 somedays, but (thankfully) thats the exception, rather than the rule! Last time I went to John Nobles rollers, I got 181bhp so Im not too...

    LMFAO!

Oi! You shower of b******s!!! ;) Shut the f**k up! At least all the 172/Cups got near enough exactly the same figures and at least 162 is a hell of a lot better than it couldve been knowing Renault! ;););););););) Sorry, but Im still fuming that we all got beat by James and his Cooper S (Ive...

Black bit under cup passenger mirror

Surely Renault could have shaved a few grams off the kerb weight by removing this? Other superflous parts include: Valve caps, Cup side badges, Laquer and the supposed extra layers of Paint. ;)

    172 Badge... Umm no

Hey! Ive got one of those already Paddy! LOL  <--------

Best R Tyres for Clio 172

33 front, 31 rear - thats what I found worked best in the Michelins... Maybe I should experiment with different pressures???

Best R Tyres for Clio 172

Hmmm... I changed from the original Michelin Pilot SX-GTs to Goodyear Eagle F1-GSD3s all round - then started posting on here that my shocks had gone, suspension had gone saggy or something was generally wrong with my car. Only later did I realise that it was since fitting them that my car has...

    Dead Key

My plip died a while ago - locked the car on the plip, then couldnt unlock it... The light came on and Id had no signs of weak batteries, but it just stopped working. Took it to Renault (complete with alarm going off - as I couldnt turn the damn thing off!) and they charged me £40 to...

    1.5 DCI or 1.2 16v

My mums got the DCi 65 - its really torquey and a nice drive all round... Id go for that one if I were you mate, its not too clattery either (unlike my bros Golf GT TDi PD150 which sounds like a 20 year old taxi). Like Rhys said, you can always chip it if you want more power and (with it being a...

    Acceleration

Your quote-editing made reading Cupsizes post nearly worthwhile Rhys! That was f**kin funny - Oh well, Im off out to play in my Space Shuttle, then maybe a quick spin in the old Ferrari Dino? Who knows, eh? Im sorry dude, but I really doubt you used to own a Mustang... Hahahaha.... Just...

    Mk1 172 rough idle

Hi Wurlie - my Mk1 172 was a bit rough idling last week (also approaching the 36k service, so its kind of acceptable really!) so I changed the air filter and also cleaned out the throttle body (around the butterfly valve) as it was full of crud/oil and it seems to be running nice and smoothly...
