will only get a decent price if you trade in
bollox! - in 10 years of buying and selling cars Ive NEVER been offered a good trade-in!
600 offered - sold private for 1400
3.5k offered - sold private for 5k
a MINT 172 for say 7.5 - 8K is a long way from 12K+ for a 182. To the average...
might as well wait - a few weeks in the Fiesta will make you appreciate it
MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH
more!
sounds neat, but very specialised, so what its cost will have little relation to what youll get!
if conversion is good you should recoup reasonable amount of that, but body mods and respray etc. unfortunately very little.
same as houses - big quality mods like a new Bathroom = good, Wilton...
what about car auction? 4 or 5K INSTANT CASH
or stick in Autotrader for £5995 - MUST SELL THIS WEEK
I sold a car in 3 hours on Autotrader - Cash in 6 hours! cost £15
I got 3.2% finance from Renault Dealer and pushed them until they got within 300 notes of an import.
WARNING: watch...
space, comfort and re-sale value = Meg
fun & performance & street cred = Clio
why petrol?
have you tried or considered a dCi 80/100 Clio or dCi120 6 speed Meg??
the 6 speed Meg can be chipped to 144BHP and around 240lb/ft of torque (DOUBLE the 1.6 petrol figure)
P.S: youll save almost a £1000 on fuel in only 30K
Dci 80 @ 75mpg £1438
1.2 16V @ 45mpg £2398
** SAVE £960 **
and the re-sale @ 3 years will be MUCH higher - 1K+ or more
I reckon that justifies paying around 1000-1500 more.
dCi 80
low insurance (5), tax £80 a year!, 18K servicing, 75mpg (55 if you THRASH it)
standard - 85BHP, 145 lb/ft (chip easily to 100BHP, 172lb/ft)
a 1.2 16V is only 75BHP and about 85lb/ft
The standard 80 has stonking midrange
50-70 in top?
1.2 16V - 15 secs+
dCi 80 - 9 secs...
ADORED my Ren 19 RSi Turbo D for economy, performance and sports spec....
.......Clio was ONLY Turbo D with sport spec & air for 10K
(alloys, leather steering wheel, fogs, sports seats, rear spoiler)
... in four years time!
:o
.... my 13 year old Niece wants a Merc SLK when shes 17, but has decided a Clio is a bit more realistic and nearly as cool!
(She is also VERY financially astute)
shes pleaded with me for 1st refusal on my car for her 17th birthday in March 2008...
Clios half worn after approx. 8K
my records
900 miles on my Dads Cavalier 1.6 (when I was 17). His company put 7 sets on in 30K before banning under 25s from the Company policy!
45 000 on my identical Cavalier 5 years later (when I was paying for rubber)
P.S: they took DOZENS of each car at TRMG Used Car Buyer Mag photoshoot @ Longcross Chobham on 8th June
at least 10 of Black Gold 182 LT04 JXX

dCis are dear second hand and new!
(same price as new 1.6 or nearly new 172, but I NEVER pay askin price)
youd have to do about 30K a year in a 2nd hand dCi (extra 2K) to get your money back.
p.s nice van ;) (window tints)
no one has mentioned the MUPPET DEALERS!!
I can live with a few creaks (prefer not to have them though)
But what NEW Turbo D with aircon & high spec can you buy for 10K??
there is NOTHING else for the money as fast, as economical or as cool!
I defy anyone to drive a v6 clio and not want one
ditto ^^^^^^
Ive driven one and it eclipses everything Ive ever driven for all round WOW
a Scooby and Honda S2000 seemed very dull in comparison
a V is not just about raw speed!
dont be disappointed with a low figure of say 130/140.
my mate was gutted with 98BHP in a old shape Mini Cooper after fitting a 2K (120BHP) race-tuned engine and straight thro. exhaust.
BUt with 163 BHP/tonne it went like a ROCKET!!
