Easy calculation: 88p per litre is £4.00 per gallon 20K @ 35mpg = £2285 20K @ 70mpg = £1140 OVER A GRAND SAVED IN JUST 20 000 MILES!

I missed Top Gear... ... but have done Advanced Driver Training (less gear changes etc.) and do a lot of bike time-trialling - max. speed without stopping at roundabouts!!

am I a sad sad b**tard? I got 795 miles from one tank of diesel! (computer said 74.5mpg, 10.7 gallons and bout 100 miles on orange light) this was a genuine 2 weeks of commuting (50mph single carriageway cross country) with a bit of motorway, bit of heavy traffic, passenger sometimes...

traction control makes it quicker to 60 than Cup, but only fractionally slower to 100 (a length or so) + sharper handling than all previous cars!

my dCi does 38mpg @ a steady flat-out 110mph! 70mpg with a little restraint..

KEEP IT! and buy a dCi (start at 4K on e-bay) as an everyday car - they really arent that bad! @ 20K p.a., youll save a £1000 p.a on fuel + prolly £500 on insurance, tax etc. over a 172 and still have a mint Willys.

defo agree: 2-5 miles v. easy (depending on how hot). increase revs gently (half max for min. 500 miles) vary revs - drive at 50 all day in 5th and youll f**k it up! having said that, Ive bought 2 ex-hire cars in the past (v.cheap) and they were sweet as a nut - prolly trashed from day...

in the real world (mid range and overtaking) a dCi 80 is quicker than 1.4 16V and not far off a 1.6 I wouldnt swap for a 1.4 or 1.6 EVEN with a FREE fuel card for the Petrol!
