After a lot of phone calls and debating with mechanics over the last week, I today found someone to fix my cylinder head without removing it. Im so happy, as some garages said Id have to junk my lovely moded head - and I certainly couldnt afford a new one.
So I got a £42 tow to the place on...
I heard a bang, just as I accelerated away gently from idle at some lights. It must have been just a flop out and the bang must have been the sudden loss of pressure - because the plastic "F16 i.e." cover is ok, although the Magnecor lead end looks like its had it! The plug itself was a bit...
The head will hopefully be coming off on Thursday/Friday and all will hopefully be revealed at that point. My initial reaction is to just plonk a standard re-conditioned engine in if its bad news and the head/valves/pistons have been damaged. Ill cross that bridge when it comes to it, but Im...
Im having to have the head taken off anyway now as the thread cannot be repaired with a Helicoil without the head coming off. I spoke to someone who can do the Helicoil for about £20 - but the head coming off will be expensive as it will need new cambelts and so on (which is a majorly labour...
A Helicoil - thats the jobbie I need. Sadly, my car is stuck at home in deepest, greenest Wales.
I also have a feeling that it wont be easy with the depth of the hole. If it needs to come off, then Ill just get a new head fitted. But that aint going to be cheap!:(
Having had a big bang, followed by rampant misfires while driving, I limped my car home (was fortunately only 1/4 mile away). I wasnt caning the car at the time.
I initially thought it might be the head gasket, but none of the associated symptoms were present.
So I looked at my ignition...
Hmmm...oh dear. Ive just had another look.
Theres no longer any whisps of steam coming from the engine block, and the coolant level looks fine. But the exhaust is pumping out fumes - then air - fumes - then air. So I suspect a vaccum leak of some sorts, which should be a head gasket? Im...

Oh dear...what a day!
I finally put my 16v back together yesterday after it had been in the body shop. So I took it for a run today to give my mate a lift to get his new car. All was fine and dandy until I was just about 200 meters from my house on the way home, when *BANG* goes something in...

Lofty fitted 19 16v leathers to his Clio 16v. The front seats on Williams and leather option 16vs are also re-trimmed 19 16v ones, so the fronts arent a problem.
The rears are more hassle - speak to Lofty.
