The Williams was a special edition of the 16v, much like the Cup is of the 172. But I think that the Willy was a more complete re-make of the original 16v than the Cup is though - it changed the driving characteristics and addressed the 16vs main failing: low down torque. The Cups engine is...
Ha ha!!! LOL @ Lofty!
My girlfriend doesnt like cars and really cant see what the fuss is all about with a car like the 16v/Willy/172 etc.
I just keep it all to one side and work on my car when shes not around. That way she never has anything to moan about! I only use my car about once...

A full colour job would involve taking all the removable panels off, taking out the engine (usually) and starting from there. Choose a nice colour though please!
Yeah, sure is! I guess it would have been cheaper to stump up more originally and get a real minter from the start. But at least Ive had the experience and satisfaction of building myself a minter.
My latest mod...wait for it...has been some original Phase 2 wheels (Speedline Vegas - much...

GT TDi is a quickish motor. But in just the same way that a car like the Clio 16v has a limited power band, so too does the TDi 150. That means that its great at lower revs and for the first burst of overtaking, but in my experience a high-revs car will really leave it standing overall.

DTWD: the engine was rebuilt about 15k ago by a Renault specialist in Winchester who usually does 19 16vs (almost the same engine apart from the inlet manifold). It has re-profiled cams, polished head, vernier pulleys and a chip - as well as ancillaries such as a PBV, induction and exhaust that...

Cool handle though - wish I was not known as Ben H now, otherwise Id have a cool name like Scaramana or Dr Moo...or even Captain Slarty (runs for cover)!
1.8 Turbo Golf is not the fast and engaging machine the reputation or heritage would suggest. Ive raced a GTi petrol turbo (150bhp) and a GT TDi (150bhp) and can safely say that the diesel one is quicker - and probably cheaper too!
I dont think any real hot hatch fans would touch a Mk4 VW...
"Next time you are up in Edinburgh, I will sort out my mates nice yellow 106 GTi for you to race and you will definitely not beat this one!! It has had everything done to it by Peugeot Ecosse and its picture is on one of the forums here. Definitely a very fast pocket rocket!"

Well, Ive been waiting for ages to see what all the fuss is about with these 106 GTi giant-slayers - over a year now in fact, since I got my 16v. Finally, today, I got the chance.
Found a willing yellow one in Bristol today on the way out to Cribbs Causeway and onto the M5. Lofty and Ben R...
Dont you mean more than actual speed - so that 60 becomes 62 etc? Ive never seen an in depth car test where the speedo is reads less than 62 when the independent equipment says 60.
Dont get me wrong, its a lovely car - but would you be prepared to pay another £10-12 on top of a 172s price for what is still a hatch? Id want a bit more for my £25k...hmmm...maybe a V6 Clio?:D
