Dont doubt that you did have the legs on a 172 on this occasion.
But so too could a well-driven car like the 205 GTi 1.9, Clio 16v, Williams, GT Turbo or 106 GTi.
Remember that you had more to prove than the 172 and probably drove accordingly.
Im sure youd be welcome to participate...
VTRs weigh 920-950kgs. 90-110bhp.
Old Clio RT is about 850kgs. 75bhp.
New Clio 1.4 is 1050+kgs. 75 or 95bhp.
Cant be arsed with the sums, but suspect that the old 1.4 Clios PWR is closer to a 90bhp VTRs than is suggested.
Mines on 94k now and runs like a dream.
But then I have replaced most things apart from the bottom end!
So make sure its mainly new bits and there will be no problems. There a 19 16vs out there on 250k with the original bottom end.
Thats right - Smoothed Clios original shape 1.4 RT was neck and neck to 100 against a VTR. Nowt in it at all.
I doubt it was a VTR that was beaten by the 1.4 16v as although Id expect it to be close, I wouldnt expect a 1.4 16v to leave a VTR. Power to weight of the old 1.4 RT and new 1.4...
Why is it that we get so many Saxo people on these boards? Where are the Golf, SEAT, GT Turbo people? Or is that they are just happy to keep their "victories" to themselves and their friends - and dont stir up a wasps nest like this?

Mud flaps caused major noise when I fitted 15s with standard ride height on my old non-wide arch Clio. Ditch them and all will be fine. Go with a sensible 40mm drop at the front and there will be little to no rubbing. Back wheels could catch on bumper and inner arch with drastic lowering on rear.
You will be very disappointed with a non-turbo/V6 Calibra.
Still moderately good looking cars if standard, but they do not handle well at all. 2.0 16v is a real slouch compared to the Valver. Point to point, cross country, a 16v will murder a 2.0 Calibra. Only a V6, turbo or 4x4 would...
Yes! And that isnt the cleanest its ever been either!
The guy who sold the car to me had a engine rebuild with mods done, so the engine was pretty sparkling - but not sparkling enough, so I painted the manifolds and got a new heat shield.
Id like to have the inside of the bonnet...
I took mine to be steam cleaned at a garage - but when they opened the bonnet they point blank refused to steam clean it. They said it would cause mayhem, especially with an induction kit.
I took a similar approach to Weight.

This is how Id do it:
Step 1: Find a nice warm garage for the Willy. Use it on an occasional basis - club meets, blasts etc. Spend £1k and get an old 1.2 Clio/old Golf/Volvo. Use it for work. Insure it as your main car. Get your gf insured on it
Step 2: When your renewal for insurance...
People with performance cars seldom seem to use them - they know what theyre for.
People with 1.1 special edition Saxos, 1.9 Z3s and the like use them all the time as theyve obviously only just "graduated" to a higher spec car and feel the need to show off. Its a bit silly really as it...
Brun - go for 195/50/15s. You have 16v wheels dont you? Just got four fresh new Yoko A539s from lofty. Not best it the wet, but lovely otherwise. Goodyear is a better brand in my experience; Falkens seem to be made of wood.
Have you checked the earth for the battery? Seems coincidental that youve got a new battery to me.
Other than that, it could be a long haul. Id take it to an auto electricians rather than Renault - they know their stuff better.

147bhp @ fly is a bit low - although the F7P (1.8 16v) motor does vary in output. Ive known 19/Clio 16vs make 155+bhp with a good breathing system, pbv and rolling road tune.

The Willy engine and the earlier 2.0 150bhp Megane engine are virtually identical. I dont know exactly what is different, but it is minor. Its called the F7R engine (F7P is the one in the Clio 16v) and also comes in the Spider.
