Id go for a Williams, but thats becuase I dont necessarily mind spending a lot of time on a car. Ideally, Id have both!
The Willy is a real legend for good reason.

The purpose of the bulge is because the inlet manifold of the F7P/R engines(16v/Willy) would foul a normal Clio Mk1 bonnet.
The vent cools the exhaust manifold, which is at the back of the engine bay - next to the bulkhead. I dont know about the 172, but most cars seem to have their exhaust...
Yeah, mines been in pieces while Ive had most of it resprayed. I took the opportunity to take everything off (including all the engine ancillaries), clean it, attend to the niggly squeaks and then fit it back again. I havent been in it since Brands Hatch!
Yup, 1.6mm. When I got my "new" Phase 2 wheels, they had some really naff, nasty original Goodyear tyres on them that made the car wander, skid and generally handle badly - but becuase the tread was over the limit, the law considerd these 8-year old tyres OK!!
Booo hooooo!
They look so good dont they! Lets face it - there hasnt been another hot hatch that looks so much like it means business since then.
...And mines still in pieces until the end of this week:cry:
But come the weekend, all Wales/the Wests roads are going to hear is that...

Ok - but a case in point is the 16v/Willy duo. Identical 0-60 times, but really different to drive due to the flexibility of the Willys flatter torque curve. In the real world, the Willy is quicker than the 16v. :D

Just like with the 19 16v, Clio 16v and Williams, the 172s do seem to vary in terms of engine output from the factory. I wouldnt worry too much about tenths of seconds - especially when its 0-60 times. What torque and power are available at what rpm will tell you more.
A 195/45/16 wheel/tyre combo does indeed mean -3mm smaller rolling radius. The 205/45/16 tyres mean a +6mm bigger rolling radius. Not that youd notice to be honest: were talking about a radius of circa 585mm!
195/50/15 tyres are the best bet on original Clio 16v wheels IMO, as you get an...
The VR6 unit is a 2-valve per cylinder unit (12 Valve, rather than 24v), so is really an older engine design mainly intended for creamy smooth torque-inspired driving. Its not the most overtly "sporty" unit available, but then high rev, high power stuff isnt VWs style.

I recently took off the HT leads from my distributor cap - and noticed that one of the five ends of the distributor was covered in a chalky deposit and was badly corroded/melted (one that goes to No.3 cylinder).
The HT lead in question appears to be fine (Magnecor), with no corrosion - as...

I think its to with having wider tracks, but the same steering rack as a regular Clio(?). My dads Volvo 960 does turning manouvers my Clio 16v could never do!
