The fault will probably be logged Joe, have you done the dashboard diagnostics check as you can reset stored faults in that?
I'm not sure on the whole disconnecting the battery thing but personally I would give it at least 30 mins to see if it cleared.
As I understand things (I may be wrong) but for your fully comprehensive insurance to be valid the car has to be kept in a roadworthy condition. If the car has no CAT then it would be deemed as un-roadworthy as it would not pass an MOT or a VOSA spot check.
This is my understanding anyway.

nothing, the logbook is now the V5 document. The service booklet is exactly that :)
I don't think Renault UK will have a record of services etc but the individual garages will.
