As i said, the load is decreased (usually temporarily) on the cable, that part that i think is doing the creaking. I dont think that heat soak would make the metal/nylon ball inside the bell housing nor the release bearing or face creak. Surely the only thing that could be affected by heat is...

Can I ask why a track day is tougher on the PAS system? Not being cheeky, just dont understand how it causes it to fail. Is it the high engine RPM or just the load on the steering/number of rapid corners in succession? J
