It does, but the expansion to it seems to all have gone really. Lots of ports though.

    Dell Kace. Anybody use it?

Dell are really promoting this at the moment. The account manager and sales team are really being pro-active but unfortunately I have not used it. So cannot help. Mr Knight might be able to help, sure he's played with it. G

    o2 / sky = out of here

My speed has dropped :( It had stabilised to around 72mb download and around 15mb upload. Now getting around 9mb download and 2.6 upload. Another interesting thing, according to Plusnet, our usage since the install on Thursday has been 48gb. (baring in mind I was away all weekend) however...

    Philips hue / home automation

Thanks for the reply. That business is near one of the offices I sometimes work in. Most of these products work on a mesh network, a lot of the systems that I have looked at aren't hard wired. Z-wave are awesome! What sort of prices are we looking at here, not the installation but the...

    Philips hue / home automation

For me, yes. We do all have toys.! I do like the idea for other things such as linking the lights to sensors.... for instance using a sensor as a door alarm and the lights flicker. There are other reasons why I like it too. Do you have any home automation toys Tom?

    Philips hue / home automation

Hi guys/girls; Just wondering if any of you guys have philips hue lights or similar and what your thoughts are on them and their functionality? Yes, I know they are stupidly expensive but that aside, I like the idea and what can be done. Considering getting the lights, or lifx, linked to a...

    o2 / sky = out of here

Finally connected. PlusNet Fibre service (FTTC) Engineer came out, installed new master socket (house was previously on Virgin) and tested out the fibre directly, which was getting a consistent 79.85mb download and 19.8mb upload I believe. Plus net router installed and using my laptop hard...

    o2 / sky = out of here

Order placed. Fibre unlimited including phone line (didn't pay for the phone line upfront) There was an activation fee due to previous owners being with Virgin, cost for that was £49. According to them, 66MB is the max I can get download. Earliest install was 29th of May, so going to be a...

    o2 / sky = out of here

Ok, now need a new supplier. Think I will use plusnet, shame about the offer of 1/2 rental not being available anymore. Only thing that is a bit annoying about plusnet is the reviews regarding it's dodgy billing and requiring two boxes. The modem and router. I'll have a think and place an...

    o2 / sky = out of here

Hey Nick, Thank you very much for the clarification. I guess the BT guy made an assumption. I know that MK do it for sure, but only went by what I was told. Let's hope the connection is good then. Fingers crossed, Thanks again for the update, G

I see it's FTTC, so copper to the house. I wonder how this may affect the speed. BT goes all the way to the house.

Thank you for this update, that is brilliant. Gives me some confidence. I think I will try PlusNet. Will see if their Fibre is available. Just need to see what offers are around. Thanks again for this update

Usenet compared to torrents and how it works....

If you read my post properly it says my colleague ;) I could not care less about pirated media. :p I use NetFlix & Lovefilm for my films, both crap but does me fine.

Usenet compared to torrents and how it works....

See this is the issue. My colleague uses it and he was getting chinese subtitles and all of that, when he only required information in English. Some people are saying use a VPN service with Torrents, but then I presume they are saying that because of the legalities. The issue I have is, that...

Usenet compared to torrents and how it works....

See, the issue I have with this is, whilst I am testing this out, I have downloaded something which is in the wrong language, even though it's titled as the right language. That is 6GB wasted. If it had comments, this could have been avoided :) Which indexing website do you use? I might just be...

Usenet compared to torrents and how it works....

I understand regarding meterage, storage servers, uploading data, storage of files. Index websites is where I get confused. If I use newsdemon and I use a newsdemon index website, then I understand how the meterage works and all of that. If I use newsdemon and I use a generic indexing...

Usenet compared to torrents and how it works....

Lol I understood the analogy, just don't understand how it works. Guess i am trying to think of it too technically. If all usenet providers does is store a copy of "usenet data" then should not every own usenet provider such as newsdemon have it's own indexing tool, to search it's own copies...

Usenet compared to torrents and how it works....

Chris, thank you very much. So if the usenet provider is like the ISP, why do the prices flactuate so much even though potentially accessing the same information?

Usenet compared to torrents and how it works....

Hi, Have always used torrents, just because I know my way around them and I find the comments rather useful. (for legal material....) I fail to understand how usenet/newsgroups work, apart from obviously that is not peer to peer. There are usenet websites such as newsdemon/giganews/astra and...

    o2 / sky = out of here

Just read in one of the other halfs magazines that if you take out a BT broadband package (fibre) you can get a free youview box! Can't find this though, only if you take out their TV package which is pointless
