Well, back to the same old problem I had with my car. Although this time, its not my car - I've tried everything I can think of (considering ive had this problem 10x over, and its worked fine since) - Just thought I would post up to see if anyone had any better ideas.
Its a Mk1 with a 172 Ph1...
After changing a lot on the car from 2009 and having quite a number of problems earlier this year, resulting in only being able to use the car late on, I still managed to have a good few days out of it. Only managed to destroy and a clutch and have one major off this year, but its all good fun...
Dont know how many people this will interest, but I'm bored and I know a couple of people have E30's on here. Well after SORN'ing the Clio for winter (well more than likely forever) I was on the lookout for a winter daily to get me about, and move car parts around. A mate was selling an E30...
Myself, AdamAnderton and Rob91 went to Anglesey on Saturday - despite the forecast being fine it p*ssed it down all day long. Needless to say I wont be going back unless its the middle of summer and hopefully dry!
Just about a tripod in the rain..
I never managed to string together a...
In two years with F4R's Ive NEVER had a problem with air locks or the engine overheating, until now.
At the start of the month I had a few weird issues at Oulton Park, where the temp gauge would rise up past the max marking on the gauge, then come back down again, and repeat. I wasn't sure why...
I think everyone who came will agree the weather was great yesterday and everyone got away without any major issues. Myself, Whiteley, ROB91, Jamie Rigby, AdamAnderton, Jams, Ian_S, andyhunt and Superbenj88 were all out on track. Quite a few of us were getting photos etc and im sure they will...
Great turnout for such short notice, probably 25+ cars? Good laughs as usual too!
I only got a couple of pics of the Mk1s, but I saw quite a few others with cameras so im sure they will post them in here.
Common as muck these days!
Enough of the Mk1s, il let everyone else post...
Around and about last night, the steering problems OK now?
Are you going to replace the 1.2 center section to match the engine? Will be strangling the F4R :(
Another good weekend organised by RTOC, quite a number of ClioSport members took part too which was great. Good to meet a few new people and the usuals - Tom@Wests Renault, Steve, Stevieh, Barnesautos etc!
Camping was interesting as always as im sure the rest will agree, especially with the...
Grabbed a few pictures and videos of a mates recently finished Mk1 with a Volvo B18FT engine - plenty of fun for something which has cost pretty much nothing to do in comparison to some builds!
Bit of a video to come later.
Heres a handful of my favourites for now. There are around 130 that are decent out off ~500 from everyone who went on here...
Il post more of them in here later
Got a text from Mike earlier asking did anyone want to meet in Warrington this evening - quite a few turned up... Hers a couple of my pictures, few others had their cameras out so im sure they will post theirs! The 2118s look great on Adams car too
In particular which lines are which going into the master cylinder...
Trying to figure out why the rear two holes on the cylinder are M10 and the front holes are like M12...
Thanks.
Quite an eventful day with plenty of CS'ers there. A very damp start with rain until about 10am - then the sun came out and the track was fully dry by lunch which was great.
The track was slippery as f*ck early on, especially with R888s - but once dry it was a lot more fun than I expected it...
Its a 172 Ph1 engine, freshly rebuilt head with new gaskets etc, new belt etc. Timed up perfectly with my tools, checked numerous times so im 110% certain it is not that.
When cranking to start, sometimes it will fire straight away, and proceed to idle fine - others it will crank and crank and...
Not bothered taking the gaitor off yet and cleaning the grease off, but how does the outer (hub side) of the driveshaft split from the shaft itself?
Im swapping the outer section to my good driveshaft as the thread for the hub nut is f*cked..
Thanks.
172 Ph1 Driveshaft, single piece (i.e. no support bearing on the back of the engine block). The gaiter closest to the gearbox is split, and im trying to get hold of a replacement from somewhere other than Renault.
Ive replaced other outer gaiters in the past and they are a couple of quid...
Few photos from today that I got due to my car not making it there...

Will post some more of the 'non renaults' later...
Picked up a new cambelt a few days ago with the above product code printed on it, checked it against the belt I took off where you can just about see the printing and its the same (which did fit fine). 172 Ph1 Engine btw.
Every other cambelt ive EVER fitted has gone on fine, can just about get...
Just before I explain the problem - Clutch is 30k old, genuine Renault. Release bearing replaced 12k (maybe less) ago from Renault.
When the car was sat at idle, with the clutch engaged and in neutral, I would get a squeek sort of noise which stopped once the clutch was depressed. I thought it...
Ran DS2500s and HC disks all last year, liked them but considering its a 'track only' car, whats worth the extra money for the next step up?
DS3000s?
Carbon Lorraines?
Mintex 1144, or 1177 if you can get them in 172 fitment?
Im not bothered about noise or dust really either, just the best...
