Tbh if you're serious about the engineering side of things look at a Life Racing/Syvecs ECU - look at the tech sheet, spend time going through the software and be amazed at how little control you have with an Omex/MBE/DTA/Emerald. Cost works out similar if you buy it then right way too.
Keep up...
So my brake pedal creaks... but only when I take my foot OFF the pedal.
Engine on/Engine off doesn't affect it.
Can be heard inside the car at reasonable volume. Not a noise immediately obvious from outside, under the bonnet or with your head underneath it on that side....
It's not a squeak or...
So the last week has been spent assembling parts for doing the cam belt and valve stem seals, I also managed to get the new lambda sensor installed and gained a healthy 5mpg on the average mileage we do locally!
The car did gain a metallic rattle from below too this week, which turned out to be...
Still can't get away from PS3s, done a fair bit of reading and the only alternative that might work is the Hankook but there's not a lot of feedback on the web.
My past experiences on the MX5 we're AD08R for summer/dry use and a set of RS3 for wet/winter use - I ended up avoiding using the car...
So the new 182FF needs some tyres.
It's on the stock 16s with a 205 45 R16 - currently a Dunlop SportMaxx on the rear and Toyo T1R on the front.
I'm not a fan of either (although the Dunlops are on the wear indicators so maybe not had a fair chance).
They're going to be my everyday road tyres...
I really like the AD08R, but can't say they're great when the tarmac gets cold.
I used to run Quantum 2 way dampers on my MX5 with AD08Rs and it was epic in the dry, decent in the wet but when it got cold the ADs really struggled with grip all round.
I'm about to get some new tyres for the 182...
My bad!
I'm going through spec stuff now, I'm either going to run high compression with ITBs and big cams OR stock compression and a SC.
I'm torn between the two, I know that the SC will give bigger gains but I've had a few ITB cars in the past and always loved them... choices...
I'm going to be running a Syvecs ECU on my car.
A cam sensor allows sequential fuel + spark. It allows correct timing of injection events.
It also allows full knock control, that knows which cylinder is firing and can make real time adjustments per cylinder.
Without a cam sensor you're loosing...
Love the attention you've put into this - baring in mind the mileage and age she looks in great condition.
How do you rate the Bilstein dampers now that you've had them for a while?
Also where do you work? Looks like some lovely machinery around!
Keep up the good work and the updates.
The 172/182 engine doesn't have one.
I want to retrofit one for the management system I'm running and wondered if anyone has any pictures of where they're mounted on the later cars or Meganes?
Many thanks,
Daniel
Where abouts are you located? It sounds like you're abroad somewhere with the use of "over here".
Looks like a nice car, it's quite rewarding getting a slightly tired car back into great shape - I'm doing the same at the minute with mine and loving every minute.
So the first big clean of the car happened in pieces over the last week.
I started on the interior with G101 on the carpet, agitated with some microfibre clothes and vax'd it out, it removed a lot of the dirtier marks in the carpet and 95% of the lighter marks found in the front footwells. I...
Looks tidy, I was going to look at it but he didn't get back to me to make arrangements.
I'll ask them tomorrow what they charge for labour on small jobs (most of the stuff I send them is 20hours+).
Where abouts in Sussex are you?
Did you buy the phase1 in little Hampton that was on eBay for a while?
All the issues seemed pretty simple fixes, if you get stuck for a decent mechanic I know a few decent guys in the Haywards Heath/Burgess Hill area that look after some of my clients track cars.
You want to be able to run your finger rail over all of the polished/hardened surfaces and it glide over - if it catches on anything then the hardening is starting to fail and you should walk away.
I just gave the interior a spruce on the new 182 - it had a couple of greasy handprints, on the headlining included.
G101 diluted 15:1 and a couple of fresh microfibres pulled 95% of it out.
Thanks! The M3 is a car I'm involved with some development work on, it's a stripped track car with all the right bits and has a Syvecs ECU installed which runs the engine and the SMG automated manual gearbox [it's one of the development car's for the kit I put manufacture] it's in for a map...
So a fortnight ago I brought my first Clio 182. This is the story of Little Blue.
Before I get too in-depth as to the car, a little bit about me...
I'm a freelance calibration engineer [engine tuner] - I've done lots of different roles within motorsport but my real talent is in making engine's...
I used to build engines for a living and it has all the signs of buggered seals, I'm doing the belts anyway so in my mind it's just an extra 2-4 hours now rather than a full belt strip later...
The head was rebuilt 60,000miles ago by the previous owner/DIY man including new seals but I can't...
Don't mess around when it comes to injectors, I see at least 4 cars a month with "cheap" injectors on the dyno. They get turned away before they blow up.
Hello,
My recently purchased 182 needs it's valve stem seals need doing... shame but I've got to do the belts anyway so not the end of the world.
Is there a manual for the cylinder heads on these that includes acceptable clearances, tightening sequences and torques? I've had a look through the...
