Evening all,
Looking for some track only tyres for the dry, got another set of wheels for the wet.
I was set on R888's but i've just seen another post on here about the new Nankang AR1's not much info out yet but they look good! Bit cheaper aswell. (Looking for 205/45/15 if that makes a...
Cheers for the advice guys, really helpful.
Done a bit of research and 2nd hand one seem few and far between. So I was looking at new ones.
Found these, looked up some reviews and they are basically budget ones. They are far cheaper than more popular brands, and i doubt I would even notice the...
Cheers for the reply, it's an excellent read!
I'm a half decent track driver already, no expert, but I'm pretty competent!
I only want them to go faster on track days (mainly brands as its a small circuit and perfect for a relatively low powered clio), my clio is just a standard 172 with...
hello all,
Anyone know a decent place to buy fully slick tyres. To fit 15" 7J wheels?
And what size, the ones i've seen have the sizes in a different format to the 195/45/15 i'm used to?
Cheers
Tim
As per title, i want to get a wider front for my 172 track car, can i just swap the subframe for the wider 172 cup one? Will it just bolt on?
Cheers,
Tim
Hi mate,
You tend to get what you pay for with speakers. I just bought a sound bar in the currys sale which is pretty good, not sure its what you are looking for though. It comes with wall brackets...
@bloke cheers for the detailed reply, i wish i had the knowlege to understand it all!
Removed dephaser pully was renault part 108671 which i googled and found it was a laguna pully.
New pully was part no 8200782671 which is a 172 dephaser pully
After that you have lost me, I am just an...
Whys that, im not with the car now? If you think i'm wrong let me know, i am no expert just an enthusiastic amatur! we haven't taken it apart to confirm this yet, too late tonight, but as it has a laguna dephaser pully i think we are on the right track.
Cheers
Thanks for looking and thanks @LeeRS for the reply.
We have just sussed it out. I bought a 172 genuine dephaser pully and gave it to my mate with the full kit to replace. Turns out my car in a previous life had a 1.6 laguna head fitted to increase the compression. But the laguna head uses a...
Please help
Does a new dephaser pully for a 172 have moving parts?
Does it 'rattle' when held in your hand?
I have a funny rattle noise from the cambelt area after a cambelt/dephaser change and i seem to remember the pully had moving parts so suspect that
Cheers,
Tim
+1 to this man. After i read the comment it got me thinking, so i have now had a chance to check the fitting of the poly bushes and he is right. The rear polybush on each wishbone is fotted the wrong way round, which has increased the caster.. I will update the thread when i have swapped it.
Cheers
Evening all,
I am unfortunately 99% sure it is the dephaser, but having just checked youtube for some other examples, I am doubting myself. Is it possible that it is a aux pully or bearing?
As always, thanks for any advice

Do it, get a standardish car and do it up yourself. Then you get to learn how it all works, it will probably be a bit more expensive to do it yourself as there will be mistakes ect, but its worth it.
I have to agree, I bought a 172 a few months back as a standard car knowing very little about mechanics. I have now turned it into a decent track car (see my build thread). The car is surprisingly easy to work on, i've learnt a lot just messing about and following the excellent guide on here...
Afternoon all,
I have wired a battery isolator to my clio 172 track car but obviously if i remove isolator key the alarm stops working (I live in Basildon, I need an alarm). I am looking to wire the alarm to the permanent side of the battery so it still works after I isolate the battery from...
I have it raised up high atm as its also used on the road, it gets lowered more for the track. I haven't played with the spring pretension since yet (still learning) I'll have a play tomorrow and increase it.
Cheers for the advice
Cheers, Ill have a go tomorrow as long as the weather holds out.
Am I right in thinking that caster adjustable top mounts would have little effect on my issue? As I want the bottom of the strut to move back, not the top of the strut to move forward
Haha, you had me worried there. I have done that with most things that have got in the way. Can I grind out this part of the arch? its not very thick metal and behind it is the engine bay, am I not at risk of weakening the structure?
Cheers
It was after I lowered it, but I have now cut the bumper brackets out and tried to lower it more but the wheel rubs under heavy cornering. You can see where its rubbing in the first pic, its the smooth whiteish mark at the front of the arch
Any idea what?
Pics below are of the wishbones while the car was still on the ramp, they are not great, but does anything stand out?
Cheers

I am new to this, so correct me if I am wrong, but I assumed it was the polybushes that have caused the increased caster.
I am trying to find asjustable top mounts, but can only find camber adjustable ones, do AST make caster adjustable ones?
cheers
