What year is it again? When I did the bonnet of the Landy there was some paint transfer to the pad, thats a 1991, definatly single stage paint, VAG paint is quite tough, my 1990 Polo's was anyway.

Exactly, theres a £4-5k difference between the two of them for a start.

Buy private, you pay over the odds buying from a dealer, however this is usually balances out with the warranty you get. If theres no warranty I don't see the advantage, may aswell just buy private.
