I agree with you here mate and when my new Cup arrives in about a week, I will be following a similar running in method...
Then at 1000 miles I plan to do an oil & filter change and then I will be giving it full beans!
Having stripped and re-built engines myself in the past, I aint gonna...
Well my 306 Rallye will run the 1/4 mile in 14.83secs @ 93mph but the 0-100 time is 19.2secs on paper...
The only way to tell is to actually run the car against the clock!
They are the times that Evo got when they tested them...
Remember though, there are always good & bad examples of cars and performance can and does vary.
Really?!
The brakes on the mk1 I regularly use are very sharp and ABS can easily be kicked in with minimal effort!
ABS on my 306 Rallye and my old 106 GTi are superb as youd never even know it was there, it only ever kicks in of you really go mad with the brakes!
p.s. those tram...
That mk2 must have been a duffer or that mk1 is awesome!
I know they altered the inlet manifold on the mk2 to generate more low end grunt and its certainly true on the ones Ive experienced.
Understeer can be sorted mate, as last trackday I stripped all the back out of the mk1 and played...
Main reasons I went for the Cup...
colour
alloys
nicer rear spoiler
performance
handling
Now Ive driven all variations of the 172 Clios (mk1, mk2 & Cup) and they DO all drive & perform differently.
I have a lot of experience with a mk1 172 and have done a few thousand road miles and...
Not according to the Renault figures its not...
I make it 0.5secs difference!
The Cup was also 2.55secs a lap faster than a mk1 172 & 2.15secs a lap faster than a mk1 V6 when Evo did the Clio shoot-out a few months back, so the Cup is faster!
Rich, Spoke to k-tec at the show and they said that kit was for the 1.4/1.6 model
So why is there a photo of one fitted to a 172 on the website then?
Also, the K-Tec website says "Available from mid July 03 for the Clio 2 1.4 16v, 1.6 16v, 172 and Cup" so Id say they told you fibs...
Well, it "should" be taking the air from the gap between the rad & the slam panel, as on the Pug, so not a problem, but seeing as how thats the only pic Ive seen of the Clio one, then Id like to have a look at one first...
Err...
This is an "enclosed" induction kit, that only allows cool air from the front of the car to enter the engine, it aint just another induction kit.
Its basically a clone of the ones used on Peugeot rally cars and theyre proven to give a good power gain on a 106 GTi, so why not on a Clio???
Just been perusing the K-Tec Racing site to see what goodies I can get for my Cup when itr arrives and spotted this...

Its very similar to the Peugeot Sport one that the 106 (GTi) Super Cup cars use and has...
Or on a China Blue 106 GTi >>>

:D
Just swap the front pads mate...
Go for either Mintex M1144s, Ferrodo DS200s or Pagids and even with standard discs (unless theyre worn out) youre braking will be great!
Ahhhh, but if the warning light does come on then the ECU will revert to "safe mode" and it will not run correctly...
But, if it was gonna come on, Id have thought it would have done so by now!
Yeah, Id like to know power @ wheels too, as thats what I work in...
If it is that easy to get those sorts of gains from a Cup, then my car will be getting bits ordered for it before Ive even driven it! ;)
