Well, I got it yesterday and there were problems straight away....
Went and checked it all over externally and it was good. No marks, bad paint, etc... wheels were un-marked and it was perfect, so I was happy. but then I open the door and immediately something cathces my eye!
The drivers...
We tried that with my mates mk1 172 and it is not as quick as other 172s plus it sounds like a bag of spanners on cold startup, plus I have stripped, re-built & run-in engines in the past and know what they need for a long life, so I will be taking it easy for the first few hundred miles...
So £5000 for the car + £500 for suspension + £4000 for the tuning = £ 9500
I only paid about a grand more for my brand new Cup which I am collecting today and I know what Id rather have!
Why spend £9500 on an old car that you have to get modded to f*ck and will then cost a bomb to insure as...
Peak power is way before the redline mate, roughly around the 6250rpm mark, although this can and does vary between cars.
Only real way to tell is get it on the rollers and look at the power curve.
Anyway, I thought the shift light came on quite early actually, certainly earlier than...
Might not necessarily get to take it home tonight though...
But if not, I still have my mates mk1 172 for a week or so and I have been nailing that about and I can get it out of my system before I get the Cup and take it easy for a few miles just to let it all bed in.
Yup, the big day has finally arrived...
I am finishing work at lunchtime, then going to my local dealer to get their trade plates, then being driven by my GF to another dealer (where my Cup is) to collect it and bring it back to my dealer for it to be PDId, taxed, registered, etc... then I...
Drop to 15s with a 195/50 tyre mate...
Much more common, cheaper to buy, similar rolling radius and minimal difference tom handling.
Easy to pick up a set of cheap 15s then keep road wheels and track wheels seperate. Ive got a set already and I aint getting the car until tomorrow!
Ive had these in the past and they are the best tyres Ive ever had!!!
But...
a) they dont make S-02s anymore
b) they are expensive
c) they are very soft (softer then my Toyos)
When my S-02s went bald (in about 4k miles) I switched to Toyos which were a lot cheaper and almost as good...
Well, my Cup arrives tomorrow so I aint quite an owner (yet), but here are my reasons for choosing a Cup over a 172 Sport...

Sounds just like my mates mk1 172 that I am driving (reads sweating in) at the moment...
Apparently it needs re-gassing and checking for leaks, so its going in on Wednesday.
Correct, but incorrect...
The Clio Cup in itself is a limited edition model and production ends in November, so although its not a limited edition Cup, it is a limited edition Clio, if you get what I mean!
Still looks best in blue though! ;)
Its the factory in France thats the problem as they shut down for the holidays and I got my mate at Renault to check on the computer to see how long it would be to get a Cup on a factory order...
The Renault computer system said 9th September and I was there and saw it on the screen with my...
According to the maths...
1st - 5.3mph/1000rpm = 38mph @ 7250rpm
2nd - 8.7mph/1000rpm = 63mph @ 7250rpm
3rd - 12.4mph/1000rpm = 90mph @ 7250rpm
4th - 15.8mph/1000rpm = 115mph @ 7250rpm
5th - 20.4mph/1000rpm = 148mph @ 7250rpm (in theory)
Those are for a mk2 & Cup, but a mk1 is gearer longer.
LOL
No more manual labour for me...
When I got the 306 Rallye Id had cars with leccy windows for years, but it wasnt that bad really, as they were within easy reach and took minimal effort.
Quite impressed with the level of equipment in the "stripped out" Cup and you get loads more...
As some of you will know I sold my 306 Rallye this weekend and my new Clio Cup aint gonna be ready for another week & a bit, so Ive borrowed my mates mk1 172 off him while he goes on his honeymoon.
Well, I picked it up off him this afternoon and he tells me that the air-con has given up the...
