if you got a multimeter you could see if it charging by checking the voltage at the batt

your alt probably just needs some new brushes

yeah you need little filament lamps (sorry don't know the model number) also you don't need a relay for your ice

the only bit the in-rush current would break is the terminal on top the little display going off don't mean the cap is off

lol i had my auto lights and wipers pack up the other day and also noticed the serv light on must be a built in 3 year desturction timer mine is also a 52 plate just out of warranty

yeah a relay would be a pain to fit it would have to go on the switch live but you would also need a perm + might be able to fit one of these in the light somewhere (only just ordering the sound card now:o)

my guess is that it's the light timer is electronic and doesn't actually cut the power fully

what? a power cap stays at whatever voltage you electrical system is at and it doesn't get switched on or off. to charge you need a 12v lamp and connect it between the - on the cap and the - cable and once it goes out it's charged. the only reason for this is that they have a MASSIVE in-rush...

take out fuse for audio then take the pos off the cap and then you can do it however you like from there

take the cap out and see if it cures the problem also to discharge a 40 ah batt in 10 mins would need to draw 240A from it which = 2.88kW which would melt any cap
