I had a 20v Turbo as my last car. 172 will probably be quicker off the line, but when the turbo spins up its bye bye Clio. That turbo shove is something else.....
Does any one know how tight the wheel nuts are supposed be tightened to?
"Very tight" doesnt count BTW!
What setting should I have on a torque wrench?
Cheers
Thought so. I had it too but uninstalled it and installed Sygate personal firewall 5.0. A lot better IMO. I found that some sites didnt load properly with Zone Alarm. You can download it from

There isnt a pop-ad killer do download a free one like EMS...
From what I understand, raising the rev limit only allows you to hold on to the gears a bit longer. Handy when youre in mid corner you can keep the power on instead of changing gears on the limit.
I came across a smug git in his BMW 3 series a while back. I was at the light waiting for green while he pulls up next to me. He actually looked across to see what I was driving and thought pah, only a cheap little hatch. Lights go green, I move off first normally then about 2 seconds later...
Well I had the complete opposite with Tesco. Used their online quote to give me an idea of what to pay come renewal, quote was £680 same as last year. A week later got the renewal through and was £588. Go figure......
I test drove an Alfa GTV and I feel it had an awful driving position. You either really stretch for the wheel or move the seat forward but have your legs around the steering wheel. The room in the back is a joke and more like a second boot, the proper boot is tiny thanks to the stubby rear end...
Well the figures are not of pin point accuracy, but as same model of cars are getting similar times all with a fraction of second of each other, them Im happy with that. It still makes for good comparisons that can be easily be done by everyone. Times so far:
My MKII 172, 2001, 14900 miles...
Just tried to keep gear changes to a minimum so theres less chance for errors and kept a steady rolling speed before booting the loud pedal so that people boot it at the same speed and so timing can begin as soon as you boot it.
Rallye-King, should have got a 20v turbo! I had abosolutely no probs with mine and really miss that surge of power when the turbo kicks in. I agree that the handling isnt as good as the Clio, thats why stuck to mainly A roads. It was twisty country roads when I came a cropper as a deer...
OK break it up lads!;) This is only for comparison purposes. If we keep to the same method of testing, then it can be directly comparable with others who used the same method.
Those Williams are posting excellent times, Rhys - 5.56 seconds 30-70!!! bloody ell, nice one! Must find that brand of petrol!
Cmon all you 172/cups/dynamiques/R5T possies, post some times
mailto:M@tthew">M@tthew, could I send you my mpegs to host. they are about 10megs each, is that a problem?
Carlos, those are pretty good times, on par with my 172, nice one!! Always knew Williams were pretty rapid even though you used 2nd gear for the 40-100 time!;)
Cant view the video clips though.
I had a 98 20VT LE before I rolled it. Definitely faster in a straight line. 0 - 100 in 14.5 secs. People on http://www.coupe-sport.co.ukwww.coupe-sport.co.uk have posted 13.5 sec 1/4 mile times. Makes 220bhp as standard, but fit it with supersprint CAT back exhaust and sealed induction, it...
Well, I gave it another go last night, but this time with my digital camera ala Rhys. 2 runs on 30 -70 and 1 run on 40 - 100. The times were pretty similar to what I got originally, but for the record 30 -70 was 6.3 and 40 - 100 13.4.

There are 2 in close proximity where I live. Not bad looking, exterior styling is quite discrete, not loud with huge wings and spoilers everywhere and fat exhausts, but has a "menacing" stance unlike anyother Fords, though not too keen on the interior.
