Well yes you could just make up the figures, but Im trying to reduce the inaccuracies by getting an average from several runs. I like many others, unfortunately, do not have access to accurate timing equipment. Its only meant to get a general indication of the performance and stopwatches are...
Bollox, couldnt finish the last post!??!
So it will be interesting to see comparisons between those with and without mods and the different models of Clios.
The measurement was using a stopwatch as everyone can easily get hold of one. Its not the most accurate method , I know, on some goes its was quicker and others slower. I did several runs to get an average and therefore try to minimize errors. Depending on what magazines you read 30 - 70...
Well Ive been out tonight to do a few quick timings on my own. Timings are for 30-70 in 2nd gear at a steady 30mph and 40-100 starting in 3rd rolling at 40mph before beginning accelleration. Times are the average of 4 runs each.
Temp = 8 degs C
Road conditions = Dry
Fuel = Optimax (full...
Obviously there are gonna be variations on how accurate when timing with a stop watch and checking the speedo, so several runs will have to be made to get an average, and people have to be "honest" with their times. Its not gonna be 100% accurate, but should give an excellent indication on the...
OK, the only way to make a real world comparison is for everyone to post accelleration times on rolling starts through the gears on a flat/level road. Standing starts have too many variables and is very much dependent on driver skill and road conditions.
A standard method should be adopted to...
If you feel your car is slow, put your car in a lock up for 2 weeks, hire a nissan micra/ford fiesta/Mini one for the 2 weeks. When you get back into your 172, I guarentee your car will now feel fast!!
Dont race slow cars. Try racing faster cars, eg Ive kept up with the old imprezza turbos, bmw 330i, TT 225, CTR etc. Theyre probably on their repective forums saying how slower cars like the 172 keeping up with them.:D
To me both drivers looked pretty competent drivers and therefore both cars have similar performance. Neither car had the power to pull away from each other.
I had the exhaust centre section replace due to the rattle only for it to appear again 2 weeks later. I put up with the rattle for about 6000 miles and I now do not have a rattle. Seems that the exhaust takes time for it to "bed" in as well.
I prefer not to drive until theres 1 litre in the tank left just in case I cant get to a petrol station.
I see in previous threads that after the ECU upgrades people are getting between 180bhp to 190bhp, the best coming from unichip. Also does this shift all the power at the upper rev range...
For those whove had their Clios modded with superchip/unichip etc, have you noticed a significant change in fuel consumption? Im debating as to whether to go for an ECU upgrade but if it means poor economy for little gain, I dont think Ill go for it.
Currently I get about 250 miles from a...
OK, Bullit, Why would honda offer a 5 year warrenty if the CTR is so good? to persuade the bakeries and people with bread making tendancies to buy them? Perhaps they know of a reliability issue and therefore the warrenty is there to keep the bakers happy perhaps.
Bullit, you clearly said, I quote
"..ctr came with 3 years warreny(90k engine miles)which i extended to a 5 year warrenty."
So back to the question, if the CTR is so excellent, why did you extend your warrenty to 5 years? Afraid that you might be late delivering the bread cos your CTR has...
Bullit, you never did answer my question, if the CTR is so excellent, why did you extend your warrenty to 5 years?
I think youll find that if you do a search on the other forums you will find Renault Clios. Also if you do a search for CTR on the same forums youll find people sl*ggin it off
If I were to move on to the next motoring level, it wouldnt be the super hatches, but more EVOs, Imprezzas, ie at least 250bhp and perhaps RWD as well as AWD.
Not one to put a downer on things but it is a new car so wont have many miles on it so the engine might be tight. But have to say that there isnt much that will convincingly toast a committed 172/cup/williams unless your well over the legal limit. Alot of these superhatches that are starting...
Clio Cup,
It depends on what you want from a car. It you want a lot of speed there are faster things for the money (not brand new of course) and with 40% off on insurance you could get something really serious.
If its fun your after, the Clio Cup will keep you very happy. Id say the 2.2...
