no pops and bangs

overrun is the pops and bangs map. makes your exhaust pop and bang when you lift off i think, over 4500rpm. think rally car. have a search on youtube for pop and bang.

how much have you tightened down the brass nuts?

comes with a little bottle as well so you can foam the car. its not super great at foaming, but you can buy attachments for it that give you the proper foaming effect.

i have very slight play in my not very old solid top mounts. we're talking half a mm if that. the play is between the spherical bearing and the mount itself. it this normal or should they be absolutely solid? they're these ones: http://www.pure-motorsport.co.uk/details.php?itemid=143

one thing i haven't tried is checking for play (hands at 9 and 3) with the engine running, i only ever check with the engine off. this might show something up. i'm going to disconnect the u/j from the rack on the weekend and if the rack still clicks it's going back to renault. i have a complaint...

i think it happened on the back of a gearbox change but it was a while ago now. mick, not ridding just yet, will be next year when i've got the funds to replace it

and gearbox linkage, otherwise the subframe will sit on it. come to think of it, the subframe will sit on it anyway.

don't miss the lower engine mount (the one under the gearbox) there's a hole close to the nearside front subframe mount that's got a 16mm nut in it. also, something i do, is strap the nearside shock tight to the body, this stops the driveshaft popping out when you remove the ball joint bolts...

or disconnect the column and turn it with mole grips

perhaps i should put it into another renault garage and just ask them to diagnose the noise :)
