The difference is that with multipoint, a correct amount of air/fuel is mixed for each cylinder. With single point, one lot is mixed, and then distributed to each of the cylinders.
The problem with singlepoint is that it retains some of the shortcomings of the carb. For example, the car tends...
Rich where are you from in UK?
It sounds like you are craving the ECU, but something is holding you back.
If you are in Surrey then you should pop over to Croydon and Id happily give you a spin out in it. Shortly after youll be straight on the phone to R-Sport.
Ill even help you fit it. :D
The some of the turbocharged F1 cars had a 3-stage boost controller fitted. The driver could use as much as 5kg/cm2 of boost, but had to be selective about when to use this for the reliability reasons that have been outlined already.
Im pretty sure F1 cars made under 1000bhp when racing on the...
Heres the gear shift indicator:

And heres the pedals - the depth of the throttle hasnt come out very well, but its a good inch below the brake:

The pedals are SUPERB!
The brake pedal is about an inch higher than the throttle pedal, and the throttle is like a chunky reversed L shape, so its really easy to catch with the edge of your foot if you need to.
There is a shift-light on the Cup. Its at the very bottom of the right hand...
It slows you down (braking), saves your clutch from burning out completely (blipping throttle to rev-match) and makes you look really cool when you do it :D
Seriously though, say you have a long straight, followed by a tight right-hander. You are doing about 100mph in 4th gear, then you brake...
Well if there are torque gains there are power gains. No one has taken an otherwise standard Cup to a rolling road and done a before and after run to see how much better it is though.
If there were 2 Cups - 1 with standard ECU and 1 with R-Sport ECU I could tell which was which without going...
Do you mean the imobiliser code?
If so, I believe the R-Sport ECU comes with a blank number, and once you use it for the first time, the key number gets written to the ECU and they are syncronised from this point onwards.
Hi everyone.
I while back when I had to remove my dashboard on my Cup I found the ClioSport article really useful, so I have decided to do the same sort of thing for anyone fitting an R-Sport (or similar) ECU.
Have a look here...
If you converted your existing block you would need the following as a bare minimum:
Turbo (duh!) approx £1700.00
Low compression pistons approx £500.00 for set
Custom fabricated exhaust manifold approx £800.00
Possibily a new fuel system depending on how much power you decide on inc...
Youre probably just getting used to the performance.
My car felt like a rocket because I owned a 1.2 before that. It doesnt feel nearly as quick as it did when I first owned it.
Power figures can change and are not really an accurate way of telling if a car is sick.
TIME is a constant...
I think the warranty issue is an important one. How many people will shell out £16,000 and invalidate their warranty? I know I wouldnt.
Shame Captain Slarty isnt still around - he was well underway with his 172 turbo project.
Really though a 172 with a turbo will be virtually undrivable in my opinion. Look at the Focus RS - Boost is limited in first and second gears because its FWD. Theres only so much torque you can put through it.
I know that there are a few 16v turbos about - whats the traction like in them?
Those are not really a great idea unless you have a sequential box without syncronisers (dog).
The ignition is cut when the gear shifter is moved, but as Ben said, you are looking at around twice the shift time on a normal box by the time the sycronisers have semi-engaged the next gear. With...
If you ran a fat old power cable to the lighter, and a similar sized one (earth) away from it, it could be done, but after this bother you might as well have used the wires direct to the amp!
My dealer got their first 2 in May 2000 on a W plate.
I was there to order a 1.2 MTV edition - I was loving the 172 (in that sexy silver colour). They started it up and I couldnt help but :D.
With the standard ECU the following happens once oil is warm:
1st and 2nd gear
6750 shiftlight
7250 limiter
3rd 4th and 5th gear
6750 shiftlight
7000 limiter
With the R-Sport ECU upgrade the following happens:
1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear
7500 shiftlight
7800 limiter
5th...
Remember the ohms are measuring speaker impendance - not resistance.
It basically means that the higher the impendance, the tighter it will sound. Impendance defines how easily the speaker will stop moving. Low impendance means the speaker will cary on moving a little after it has been told to...
