I want to replace the 2 small airfeeds from under the car with 1 big one and some sort of scoop to direct as much air as possible up the feed pipe. Heat shield on its way. Will probably costg a fortune by the time I finish. I fancy one of those massive piperx foam filters! Wait for next clear...
Wayne - its just got a funny little pipercross thing that came with an old random induction kit I bought (last Halfords sale!). Looks like some wire wool tightly compressed. Just attached this to the hose and shoved it down to the bottom of the engine bay.
Rich - get pics of what you come up...
Yup, the hosing just pushed over the IK outlet and is secured with a jubilee clip. Its all very solid and better held together than what was there before!
Total cost - approx. £25.00 (and it shows! At least it works though...)
1x discounted K&N Vauxhall Carlton air filter(£10)
1x 70mm "Green" air ducting tube (£11.99 - extortion, Halfords style)

Any URL for H&R?
Im going to leave the current ones on for the time being, reservations from various people duly noted. Ill try and get "hub specific" ones asap, but now Ive had a chance to play with the car a bit, the improvement in handling is drastic and Im not going back to the...
No, it doesnt understeer as much. In fact, Im still to get it to understeer with the spacers on at all. Ill go out when the roads dry up and see what it can do.
Yes, only on the front. Not sure whether doing the back would make a difference or not. I didnt use longer bolts as there seems to be...
Thats exactly what made me think of doing it! Its definitely helped. Best way to test it is to get a passenger in your mk1 172. Drive them round a corner fast. Fit 3mm spacers. Drive same passenger round same corner. Ask them if it felt safer!
As the topic says, Ive made an noticable improvement to the handling of my standard mk1 172 for just 11 pounds.
I bought a pair of 3mm spacers for the front wheels and hey presto! Much less nervous handling round quick corners, and it also seems to turn in a bit better too. Got the spacers...
My old 1.4 16v was at its best between 4500rpm and 6500rpm. Had no go at all below 4.5k, but a bit like the 172, it perked up nicely with the "on cam" feeling above 4.5k.
Only free for a month. Ill be bringing my AP22 if anyone wants a go, and I think Ive got it set up as good as is possible for most cars.
Si_5s run at Santa Pod last weekend in his matched his best AP22 run....
