So - some more news today - I now knuckled down and made a start at fitting all my new shiny bits and pieces...
Firstly, I stripped the o/s rear suspension to start adding my new bits:
...and after lots of swearing and some serious work with the pliers and an old screwdriver...
Hello all, and here goes with the first of a pair of updates on the project, since I've been cracking on with getting stuff done!
I promised some pictures, so here goes - unfortunately, I keep taking the camera into the garage, but don't take any snaps as soon as I've started to get going, so...
Well - it's been quite some time with no update - but things have been happening (pictures to come soon!). And as for Kipper's comment about the shorts (if anyone didn't realise, he;s my brother, who's also in some of the pics!) - we can try to recreate the picture, but the shorts might be a bit...
Glad to hear you're enjoying it - I've had mine (acer aspire one 120Gb on linux) for about a fortnight, and very impressed too!
Such a nice, portable little bit of kit!
A bit geeky, but I'm 90% sure that first pic is from one of the original EVO road tests of the trophy - they may have a copy on their site...
Some very cool shots on here!
Another vote for Sennheisers here - so much better than the standard apple jobs, but I also prefer them to my pricey Bose in-ear jobs too, as the isolate external noise much better...
I bought this the other week, and the PS3 looks great through it, overall I'm pretty pleased with it... chose this as it's brighter than most others at this price, and of course LG make the panels for Sony and many others...
Thought this might be of interest to some on here - my brother's 2007 Astra VXR, which he's selling up due to an impending house purchase...
It's a good honest standard car - and drives beautifully (don't believe Clarkson's review, driven by a normal person, it's a great motor to drive - and...
Well, I've been doing a bit more work on the mini today - started off taking out my newly refurbished heater, as the hoses to it were leaky...
Then I connected up my new shiny silicone hoses, and fitted it up
Connected the hoses up at the other end
and ran the engine up to temperature -...
If you need a decent garage to do it, then give Dave a call at Wood Lane Garage in Horsley Woodhouse (01332 881891) - He's a mate of mine and should look after you... It's reasonably convenient to Ilkeston too...
Agreed - the pics look very cool, but I can't help thinking that it's too good to be true and can't look quite that good in the metal, if you know what I mean...
I do like the original thinking though - and I imagine there'll be a few replicas along soon!
Thanks again to you all for your comments - good to see some love for the old mini's on here!
Unfortunately today's update is no progress! My parcel of parts haven't arrived yet from minispares, and I've been trying to get to the bottom of the fun and games I'm having with the clio at the...
Well - thanks to all of you for all the positive comments - I am determined to get it finished for spring, hopefully by keeping this thread going will stop me from slacking off, and keep me motivated!
A couple of bits I wanted to reply to specifically too:
I'm in Belper (you might see my...
I think the time has finally come to put up a project thread to show off possibly the world’s longest rebuild of such a small car – partly to show it off, but also to give me the motivation to get the final jobs done and get it on the road ready for the mini 50 celebrations next year.
So...
well - current update is that the emissions are sorted and it has an MOT - replacing the coolant temp sensor and the cat (which was definitely mullered) bought the emissions down to basically zero.
Unfortunately, it's had the engine management light coming on since with the error code P0130...
After more digging and testing - it looks 90% like the cat is dead which (as ben says above) seems fairly logical - the CO is through the roof, but HC's are only marginally high - which would say to me as a chemist that the cat isn't doing its job and oxidising the CO to CO2... but it's not...
Cheers Fred - forgot the most important part there really - car is indeed being hooked up to the computer this morning to see what that says before we start replacing parts needlessly!
Thanks for all the replies guys - guess the first thing is to replace the lambda sensor (presumably the pre-cat one first) - and see if it's better... if not, then I'll look at post cat lambda and/or a new (sports?) cat...
Will let you know what we find tomorrow...
JUst spoken to my mechanic who has taken the 182 for MOT today, and it's failed specatcularly on emissions with the levels being:
6.18% CO (limit =0.3%)
231ppm HC (limit - 200ppm)
Emissions are apparently spot-on at idle, but rocket up at fast-idle...
It's completely standard apart from a...
LOL at this rate there'll be queues in every tesco branch on Weds with folks picking up their karchers, and water pressure across the country will drop an hour later as we all try them out!
Saw this over on DW, and thought a few folks on here might be interested - a bargain Karcher from tesco for only £37 rather than £100!
I pick mine up on Weds!

Well, after a long day of work, Team Arden are now complete!
I think we should look pretty good for the drive down now!
Loving the Volvo - and should make for a good waft down to the circuit too!
Cheers for the comments folks - I'm really looking forward to it now - it's our first time out there, so should be an experience!
I'll try and post some pictures of both motors together once number 2 is finished on Saturday!
S77CCP - where are you camping? I'll make sure we look out for you!
We're off to Le Mans next week, and so got car one of the Team Arden motors stickered up today (it's my bro's VXR) The second is being done on Saturday, and will look very similar - my mate's Zafira GSi in the same colour...
If anyone's going - look out for us around Bleu Nord!
If anyone wants a recommendation for a decent non-franchised garage locally (I've been there with Sunwin - the 182 was in 5 times in it's first 800 miles, for the same fault!), I can highly recommend Wood Lane Garage in Horsley Woodhouse (http://www.woodlanegarage.com) - it's owned by a close...
Hello All - good to hear of so many local folks!
I'm in Belper, but the 182 (black gold, with B2 private plate) might have been seen around Heanor way, as the missus worked in Langley Mill
until a week or so ago...
I think warine_warrior is also heanor way with a black 172 - so that might be...
