Hi
Scooby would be the only better one if you like them. Or you could consider an S3 Quattro instead of the 1.8T Audi. Focus not in same league really
Im not too far from Stevenage
Im 23 and I pay the same as you, but that was based on when I was 22. Im about to have to renew and best quote is £650 fully comp (£800 with protected NCD). I have 4 years NCB now but had 3 years when I took out the 900 policy.
Think youre being a bit generous - I think they got the 7 and 2 the wrong way round and didnt want to look like tits so carried on selling it as a 172 ;)
Hi people
Wonder if anyone can help me spend or not spend my money!
Id kind of decided to get a private plate for my car and got the money together for it. Now that I actually have the money sitting here, Im starting to wonder whether its really worthwhile or not.
The plate in question is...
Renault time for Mk2 172 is 0-62 in 7.2.
Anyhow, I dont think youll find a lot between the cars, and if you are swapping solely for performance, you may be disappointed (especially with your car being modified 25bhp above standard)
If you werent blown away on the test drive, what will it be...
If she only got it a few weeks ago, then is it run in properly yet? (not that it should make a massive difference in performance anyway)
If its all run in then I think its just crappy Renault quality control. There does seem to be huge differences in the output of 172s and whether that is due...
I get confused with all the different explanations of Optimax. Some say its refined at its octane, some say its regular 95 with octane boosters and cleaning additives. Some say it deteriorates back to 95 RON within 40 days from refinement and Tony says that its 6 months and 98.6 minimum...
Mines never been to Renault (although it will soon) and nothing has ever been touched on it. I think its more down to your personal opinion on what is quick and what isnt - obviously that is influenced by the cars youve owned before and the cars you regularly go in. Thanks for the info though -...
23, 4 yrs NCD, no c or c, good postcode - just had a renewal quote from Direct Line of all people for £650 fully comp without protected NCD, or £790 odd with protection.
Astra 1.4
Nova GSi (sorry, sorry sorry - I was only 17 still at that time!)
AX GT
Saxo (brand new, and sold within 3 months because it bored me to tears)
Fiesta XR2i 1.8 16v
Punto GT Turbo
Clio 172.....
.... to be replaced within a year by an Evo VIII
Xenon headlamps are a huge giveaway (when on!)
Brushed aluminium 2.0 16v badges on sides
Think thats about it visually - including what has already been said
Before I got mine, I thought there was very little difference visually between it and non-172 models, but now I can spot a 172 in...
Welcome
Options list?! I thought the whole point of the Cup was back to basics. If you are interested in options, then look at the regular 172 because they all come as standard bar sat nav I believe. Same car essentially but a bit heavier with all the trimmings - there are some other subtle...
Black gets my vote too. With silver (as nice as it is) you cant see the brushed aluminium 2.0 16v badge down the side which is IMO one of the only defining things on the car:

My average is just under a year per car so far (7 in 6 years of driving). Although at the beginning it was more like 6 months each - Ive been keeping them for longer recently.
I love the 172 as a comfort car with all the toys, and the looks are nice too. However its the performance that will...
Does sound pretty high.
Im just getting renewal quotes at the moment, 23, 4yrs NCD, no accidents or convictions, very good postcode area, standard car without alarm. Coming in around £650 fully comp without protected NCD, and £800ish with.
Amazingly Direct Line were about the cheapest...
Jeremy Townsend said 2005 for the new Clio, and Id be inclined to believe him over auto press who arent always the most reliable with their information!
Bit off the topic (although they are nice speakers!) - in the auction, it says location as Puckeridge - is that where you are? If so, only down the road from me :D
I would have had a Cup if I could have had ABS as an option. None of the others bothered me THAT much, but the lack of ABS just scared me. Mind you, with the warm weather recently, Ive grown attached to the 172 climate control!!
What does your renault head unit look like ? - I just took mine out to replace with an aftermarket one. Its that soft plastic texture with a front load CD. It says Tuner List on the bottom right? 6 station buttons with random on the 1st one. Red power button top left.
Reason I ask is that if...
They arent that bad - I used to get 28-32mpg on average. Obviously if you drive it on boost the whole time, its gonna be crap, but if you cane any car all the time, its gonna be crap. You dont buy a "fast" car for the fuel consumption usually!!
I sold my Punto GT for £3.5k before getting my 172 and thats a lot of car for the money. Not far off my 172s pace (certainly up to 70/80) and a quarter of the price. I would say an Uno Turbo or R5 GTT but they are getting on a bit more, whereas you can get a late Punto GT, and get turbo...
Wouldnt it be..........in a straight line against the Cupra it would be a simple victory for the Cup, and against the 210bhp Cupra R, it would be close?
0-60 for the std Cupra is 7.7 and the Cupra R is 7.2 - allowing a bit for error, neither come very close to matching the Cup.
Maybe the...
Thanks for all your advice _KDF - its been a real help :D
Tom, if you dont mind doing it then it would be excellent. I really dont fancy trying to take my dash off (as easy as the instructions look) - Id probably end up damaging it knowing me. But I dont want to put you out! If you really dont...
I think I will do that John to solve the memory loss issue, but I still dont know where the big red connector goes to (it will fit into nothing I can see) and what to do with the yellow connector block that used to go into the renault head unit.
I think Ill just take this somewhere and pay...
OK - 1st is back of renault head unit - you can see the 2 main blocks that I can re-use in the adaptor (power and speakers), but you can also see the yellow and blue blocks that have nowhere to go with the adaptor. 2nd pic just shows the Kenwood head unit and 3rd shows it all together, connected...
Thanks a lot _KDF - my only trouble now is how Id get the yellow connector to connect to the red - they arent the same size at all
What Ill do is take some photos now and post them. If you can still help it would be very much appreciated and if not, dont worry, youve been more than helpful...
OK, its a Kenwood KDC-PSW9521 (I was going to get a different one but its last years top of the range and it was sooooo cheap and I couldnt justify paying a similar price for only a mid-range 2003 model but anyway.....)
The adaptor is PC9-712 - Autoleads.
Im at work at the moment so cant...
