    Gearbox Worries for a Novice!!

    Keep an eye on ebay, gearbox's can be had for circa £200 and its only a 2 day job for a complete novice! Make sure you replace the clutch and release bearing at the same time!

    Yes i'd suggest engine mounts fella, sounds like the exhaust is hitting on the subframe, I had this on my old 172

    How do I know if the belts are done?

    Its 5yrs or 72k miles for the belts but most recommend getting them done before this, circa 60k Phone Renault and they will be able to bring your cars service history up on there screen and at least be able to tell you if they did the belts or not!!     tbh i'd go down the new engine route, I did when my head gasket went! So much easier and you can change all the serviceable parts to make it future proof! I took the opportunity to fit a complete 182 engine and manifold in my 172

    yeah its harry manback's old motor, i've read up on its history but this isnt the box given up the ghost as such! The bell housing has cracked and split where it bolts to the engine. The bolts are still in the block as is part of the bell housing, the split is approx 1cm ish wide! Looks to me...
