As my engine is even more damaged as we thought before, we're about to put in a completely overhauled Ph1 engine. I'm wanting to go the Schrick route on this engine.
@ Fred , Danny ; how will these cams perform on the Ph1 ? Actually when comparing Ph1 + Ph2 engines; are there ANY differences...
^^the cams are shot , these pics do'nt really show the damage. I'm wanting to go with some new Schricks as they come pretty close to the C&B spec that i was running. My mechanic only warned about the rockers feeling "rough" and was afraid these might mark up the new cams.. he's wanting to...
No placebo effect ! Your car was running "cold" with the broken thermostat, the sensor passed this info to the engine management, it richens the mixture, sort of like an old fashioned "choke" , untill the temp is right . You'll definately notice it running better
So in your cases the cams must have also been unscaved? My cams looked like this on some of the lobes:
Hoping that just replacing some of them will be allright, do'nt know if they wear differently which could mean all of 'em have to be done..?
I had one of the rocker arms broken (valves floated with too many rpm's + did some damage) , a piece of the rocker lodged itself between the cams and made some nice drawings on them :dead:
When we are rebuilding the head, do we need to change all the rockers or just the broken one? The mech...
Fred you think the cams will run on the C&B map which i'm running now (till Henk's back?) , just to be able to drive it to the shed and back ? It's not my daily driver..
ANd Were they difficult to get right ? Or are they pretty much plug+play, with map to suit+perfect ofcourse ?
^^ i was about to do this haha ! Yeah but getting there and back will put you back some $$ too.. I remembered Henk telling me about a good guy at which he get's things done when needed, so called him up and well, there i am now! He's supposably friendly priced and highly qualified for these...
This... a guy from work had a mishap with it, i think a missed gearshift and then a full throttle after sending the rpm's skyhigh , with floating valves to follow, valves hit pistons, roller-rocker (follower?) actually broke a piece off of it and budged itself between the cam i think by the...
I can order some for a nice price , thinking of putting these in my Cup which needs new ones. Am i correct that the cam profiles for these are 280 and 288 (do'nt know which is inlet or exhaust but read this on ze German webseite)
These two numbers come very very close to my C&B cams (which...
We have decided on taking off the sump to be able to have a look at the pistons and their rings + bearings.. when these are okay i will decide to go on and fix her up. If not , i'm pulling the plug as this car has cost me way too much already.
@ Fred, if you read this; when i fit it up i'll...
My ex-colleague , dishonest piece of ....
Hey Fred, was about to ask you some questions on Schricks! The cams are dented or yeah some pretty serious markings on 'em. Because one of those roller rockers busted up and budged itself in there, literally broke a piece off the rocker ! The...
Thanks guys for the replies. Yeah i knew i was going to need to fork out some $$$ for the head, but the cams and pistons were a bit of a surprise to me.
So i was already going for a complete (head)refurbishment , all valves, guides etc. , but know i see that also my 1000euro cams have been...
^^ go on , this is music to my ears ! Seriously, are you speaking out of experience ? It seems like the bottom part of the engine is fine , other than the marks. Am really scared about putting things together (total head refurb) and finding out later (too late) that a spot like this on a...
couple of hit valves, bent but not broken. How do these pistons look ? :( Want to know if these will still do the job ? One of the pics has a damaged cilinderwall...
My C&B cams look f**ked too, valve took out a rocker arm (correct?) on its destructive way up and this must have damaged...
My exhaust valves were changed and were for a lot cheaper (a piece) than the 9 pounds. Am i in trouble? Do the people at the head-refurbers sometimes use cheap parts? (sorry for the bad english!)
car runs great, lots of power but i just don't not trust the cheap bill for the head-refurb with...
bit of a hijack, sorry
I was looking up all i can find about changing valves; this thread came closest to my situation. Is it normal to change just the exhaust-valves when one of these has been hit/bent ? (just 8?) And do these definately absolutely have to be ordered from Renault ?
Thanks guys. I'm also curious about these "early" users in this thread, wondering if any problems may have come up with driveshafts/train/gearbox, etc. with the engine being "fixed" , deleting any play and putting the torque-strain on other parts.
