Also if it’s a brand new one the OE screen protector will obscure the mic at the top of the screen meaning you can hardly hear anything. I am talking from experience here!

Can I ask why you go to this cost and effort ??? Many (not all!) pattern parts adequately do the job at a fraction of the price. I am not sure why you would go out of your way to fit oem only.
People often quote tales of cars passing without a cat etc, you never know how much this is the fact they turn a blind eye or it genuinely passes, I find it very unlikely.

if you start taking it to pieces like that you will have issues when you put it back together - you can guarantee it (sure i read it somewhere)
just clean it when its in situ if;
a) it bothers you that much (with no idling issues)
b) if it needs it
as long as its for a 182 i.e straight and not for a 172 i.e kinked then you will be fine. A big clue apart from the model (172/182) is the price, 182 decats are much cheaper
