Hi New Zealand !
You had better get your Cam-belt done ASAP , it needs doing every 70k miles OR every 4-5 years !! They have a reputation os snapping prematurely. If this would happen you're looking at a new engine !!! (well , overhaul at least !)
I have the exact same worry/question..
Had my cambelt done 2 months ago (for some reason they did not do the full aux kit like yours) , + now the car still "whines" on cold start, plus a small squeel of aux belt slipping.
So around 200 notes to do the full kit ?
I think i'll get it...
"just get the flex joint" is an option but pretty much work , problem cured though.
I would def get new mounts when i notice a lot of play in the gearstick etc. By experience i can feel when my mounts are dead ; play in the stick; this goes with a loose feeling in throttle response , feeling...
Danny is right on the new gasket. Try that first. A new set from Renault costs over 30 pounds i believe but it's neccescary when leaking
And on my RS i have changed the mounts TWICE already in 70k. I like the way the car drives like new after , stops a lot of play of the engine. When the...
^^ but yours is rock solid into place now , and it has to be able to "flex" at this joint.
Your manifold where it's mounted to the exhaust ports might be under a lot of stress like that, because of the lack of flex further down :dapprove:
A guy on here was going to put on one of those...
:( Can i change the auxbelt pulleys/idler/tensioner without taking half the engine out like with the cam-belt ?
How much is the job at a specialist or Renault ? (complete aux-kit)
^^ yep but all has already been done.. (cambelt kit) I'm only questioning the auxbelt tensioners + pulleys etc..
can i still do those without too much hassle or is it again another big job ?
:o bare with me;with my little knowledge i'm thinking the Cambelt-kit and the auxbelt-kit are two different kits ? with different tensioners/pulleys/idlers etc. ? Or does the cambelt kit contain al these things ?
^^ thanks Fred; Is it possible without too much hassle to still do the pulleys / idler etc. or is it another big job ? Is there space to work on this ?
(timingbelt kit is on there, also new auxbelt ; just these things mentioned above need doing..)
Thanks guys
I had my Cam belt + aux belt changed 2 months ago.
What surprised me is that my engine still has the "whining" noise on start-up as before the belts were changed. (whining almost dissapears when warm though)
Also when checking the bill there is only the Cambelt-kit mentioned.. nothing...
I'm really wanting to know why my engine is still making the exact same whining noise when on cold start AFTER my timing + AUX belt were done
Could this mean that they only did the aux belt and not the idler/tensioner/pulleys-etc. with it ?? (i only have the timingbelt kit on my receipt...
