Deep sockets needed in 10, 16, 17, 18 mm. Torx 20, 30, 40, 50 but just discovered the clock spring has small torx (might be 10) that hold the stalks in.
Also note that the standard coolant corrosion-inhibitor additives INCREASE the boiling point, so plain water can carry more heat but will boil sooner.
Some info on water wetter:

Coolant is an interesting topic.
Counter-intuitively, distilled water without an additives has the best heat-carrying capacity. It's not used because most modern engines have different metals in contact with each other (eg, alloy head and cast iron block, or alloy engine and head with cast iron...
I had this problem with a P2. Happened with both keys so I figured it was immobiliser. Looked for broken wires etc changed crank sensor, no fix. Turned out both keys were dodgy however I fixed them by resoldering all the joints on all the components on the circuit board — just touching each...
I just put purple Powerflex bushes in both ends of the dog bone of my 172 and it's much better. Just before doing that I discovered that the LHS gearbox mount under the battery was broken (both the battery box corner was snapped off and the big bolt was in two pieces) so in the 2 years I've...
The correct locking tools are required for a belt change on the F4R. Get it wrong and valves bend.
I believe the cam belt need to be removed to change the water pump.
Hello
TL;DR -- keys that cause immobiliser faults may be fixed by re-soldering the joints on the components.
I have a 2002 172 (non-ESP) that's been suffering badly with immobiliser problems. Symptoms steadily got worse -- on key turn the immobiliser flashed quickly, but if the remote button...
Ha ha I wish, the 172 Cup was never sold in Australia so there are no used Cup bits - cheap or otherwise.
AFAIK there is only one 172 Cup in Australia - a blue one - and that was imported as a rally/race car that cannot be road registered. I saw the car and met the owner (Gazwold on the OzRS...
Hijacking the thread... what's the difference with the 172 Cup suspension? I've read the Clio Model Guide and it says "lower, firmer suspension and wider track"and the wider track is due to the wheel offset. Are the Cup struts and springs different?
(I'm in Australia and no 172 Cups were sold...
My 172 had a similar problem. I cleaned the big white socket, no change. When I looked that the crank sensor the plug wasn't seated properly. Fixed now.
