Engine dropped a valve and everything broke (from that description you can probably tell I am not a mechanic :))

Well, my experience hasn't been great either. I bought the car in April 2010:
(These prices are off the top of my head, but they were there or there abouts):
Car price - £4,900
PAS pump replacement - £400 (I'm sure I got ripped off for this)
4 x PE2s - £500 (ripped off because they quoted me...
A few days after doing this and I am really please I did. The sound is really nice in my opinion, and I haven't noticed anything different with the way the car drives, it just has a bit more grunt. Nothing over the top, just a bit of a growl when you get higher in the rev range :)
Thanks dude. I seem to only do weddings and events now as it's something I'm pushing quite a lot, which is great money wise, but I haven't done any photography for myself for some time now. Planning a shoot with Helen (gf) next weekend though, weather pending :)
I thought I'd update this as the problem has finally been fixed; so just in case anyone else has similar symptoms.
I had a Milltek cat back fitted, and this removed the horrible rattle at around 6k revs.
The knocking/rattle on acceleration was there for another month after until a local garage...
Enjoy it for what it is and save for a better car.
I just realised this is an incredibly unhelpful post. I'll take myself out the back and shoot myself.
Sorry for the late reply. My PAS pump was around £150 I think, but the labour cost a fair amount due to its location, so cost nearer £400 in total. Although I think I was ripped off a bit.
Well worth taking it to a garage though to check just in case.
Well, I am amazed, but extremely happy to say that after around 3 months IT IS GONE!!! HURRAH!
I am so happy, it is FINALLY running as it should *touch wood*.
Well, it's been in a local garage today and they called me to say they have fixed it. I am picking it up in an hour, so we shall see.
They say they have:
- Adjusted the heatshield
- Adjusted two of the engine mounts (can't remember which ones)
- Replaced a missing bracket on the airbox
It...
Unfortunately this still hasn't been fixed. James and Tom at JMS were kind enough to spend a few hours looking into it whilst it was serviced, and they tried a few things but to no avail. Unfortunately there was no access to a.....errrm, big car lifty up thing, so they weren't able to get access...
I just yanked mine out and went for a quick drive. Certainly makes a nice sound now :)
It's definitely safe, yes?
One thing that concerned me though, there appeared to be some oil spillage around the entrance of the CAF and also at the entrance of the airbox. Is this normal?
AG Aqua Wax was pretty good when I used it. Then again my knowledge is minimal so my definition of 'good' is probably very much different to most here.
However it was easy to apply, and is still beading nicely a few weeks after applying it. Again, having said that, I don't know what constitutes...
Is this the one going into the airbox from the right? If so, how is it attached? I can't feel anything connecting it but when pulling it away from the airbox it won't budge.
Also, do you pull the whole pipe out or leave it loose once you've disconnected it?
Is there any power loss from doing...
