I don't know how serious it is, but apparently enough to fail an MOT.
Bear in mind that it could be something else, just in my case it was the lower ball joint (on the offside I think mine was). Would be worth taking to a garage to get checked out.
Excessive play in lower suspension ball joint. I had this, and it failed an MOT because of it. Replaced the lower suspension ball joint and it was gone.
The part was cheap, I bought it for £12 from here -...
I had exactly the same thing. I figured it's because the tracking was done previously to suit the worn ball joint, so when it was replaced it put the tracking out. I think we just need to get the tracking/alignment done again.
I used to get this when my power steering pump was on the way out. It was accompanied by a very annoying whining noise when turning the wheel.
When the PAS pump was replaced the engine cutting out stopped.
Woohoo, it's pretty much completely gone (around 98% I would say). I had to look EXTREMELY closely to see signs of the problem, and I literally had my face on it and looking at a certain angle. I'll go over it again next time I wash the car and it will be 100% fixed.
Thanks everyone.
I dislike that in 6 months of ownership there has been, at most, 2 weeks where it has been running properly.
First it was the PAS pump
Then the engine dropped a valve, requiring a new engine, clutch, belt kits, etc.
Then the dephasher pulley went
Now I've had a knocking/rattle on acceleration...
I went at it tonight with 3 layers of Megs Scratch X 2.0, then some AG SRP, and finally some AG EGP. It was getting dark so I couldn't see too well, but it seems to have helped. I'll know for certain in the morning :)
The CAT is certainly something which had crossed my mind.
At the moment I'm thinking it might be the manifold bashing on the sub-frame due to worn mounts. However (as danny mentioned) I did have a huge engine failure a couple of months ago and I had a new engine go in. I'm sure if the mounts...
Does anyone have a guide to fitting standard engine mounts to a Clio 182? Also, if there is one for fitting a Powerflex Twisted Dogbone mount as well that would be great, including what tools are needed :)
Or is this something I should have done by a garage? (if so, how long should fitting all...
Not everyone wants to sound loud when driving slow though. I certainly don't want that attention when in reality I'm just driving a 6 year old Clio.
I'm very happy with my Milltek with standard Cat, a bit noisier when you want it to be, but a nice deep rumble when going slow, just right for me.
Do you really think old cups could be the problem? I will get them sorted out this weekend, but when I fitted the kit it was almost pitch black and I just need something on there as I had a wedding in Essex to get to the next day. Being the photographer for it I couldn't really miss it :p
