Ah I see, basically the top bearing in my steering column has completly collapsed, all the balls in the bearing have fallen out and my steering wheel now moves all over the place. I wanted to know if you could just replace the top part of the column without having to take the whole column out...
Welcome to Cliosport, have you checked the gasket between the throttle body and the top plenum chamber? Also check the rubber gaskets for the inlet air temp sensor (rubber o ring) and the icv.
When its idling too high have you jumped out the car and checked the position of the throttle in the...
My first house (that was a small town-house) had a big garage that was always nice and warm, as it had the boiler and all the central heating pipes run thought it. I miss that garage, but not the house. My house now has a badly constructed pre fab garage at the bottom of the garden thats good...
On my 172, the steeringwheel is now moving up and down  (with the column locked in position). It looks like the top bearing in the column has collapsed. Before I spend ages taking it apart any further, can the bearing be bought seperatly? Or is it a whole top column I need?
I did a...
Its common on high milers for the inner cv joint to go on the drivers side driveshaft. Normally if its this you'll also feel a wobble through the steering wheel while at high speeds/accelerating hard, if its really bad there will be play in the joint.
I changed mine last weekend, I found the the o/s 13mm nut impossible to get to from underneath with any of my spanners/sockets, but after a while I realised it was easily accesible by removing the o/s wheel and plastic trim, theres then plenty of room to get to it from the side.
Made a hell...
I heard a local rumour that the owner has suggested selling it to david wilson homes (or similar) to build 1000+ homes on the land. Im sure the local residents would rather put up with a bit of noise on couple of weekends than have all that built on their village.
Ive still got mine, I still dont ever see myself selling it. Ive driven a lot of nice cars recently, they are not as raw enough, the Clio is the perfect balance.
Oct 2012:
Hi all, havnt posted much for a while. My car has been off the road for just over a month, the throttle cable snapped and had a few other jobs to do (tighten handbrake cable, rear pads etc). Took the opportunity to tidy it up along with headlight restoration and give it a full service/all...
Ideally it should go on the oil temp but it doesnt, on the 172/182 as per the workshop manuals it goes on the coolant temps as per the above post. Theres a oil level sensor but no oil temp sensor. iirc the Clio williams had a oil temp sensor, i bet you could fit one and wire it to a gauge if...
Can anyone confirm if a sportscat is illegal? About 5 years ago I hit some bricks in the road, and wrote off my standard twin barrel 172mk1 cat, a new one from Renault was £850. I think I paid £300 for a janspeed sportscat, and it has passed 5 mots since then...My sportscat is bolted to the...
My throttle cable has just frayed badly and about to snap 2 days before its MOT . Luckily I managed to make it home with it just holding together on 1 thread, it wont idle now due to it catching badly. I see Renault will sell you the whole assembled cable with tube and ends and bits but...
2 of my mates have had their cars written off due to the hail in Leicestershire, My Altea has a couple on the roof, luckily my clio was parked under a tree at work at the time. I was at Morrisons in Hinckley on Sat and couldnt beleive the amount of cars that were battered all over.
My rack mounts are also perished and there was a bit of movement in the rack until I tigtened the bolts. I beleive you can get the rubber rack mounts seperatly from Renault. With the sub frame out it wont be too hard to swap them out.
Does anyone know yet if the mileage clock once you have passed 199999 does it go back to 0 or does it go to 200000 as it doesnt look like there is enough room for the 2?
When you fitted the replacement mirror, did you plug the electrics from the mirror into the wiring loom in the door. Or its possible your replacement mirror is a non temp, non electric moving one.
Sounds like renault sent you a 172mk1 line, the line on the 172mk1 is solid pipe from axle to caliper, then the 172mk2 and 182 it was changed to pipe-hose-pipe for some reason.
