Its a bit of a grey area. If you compare a 172mk1 shaft to a late 182 shaft there are a number of differences. Not sure if they all have the same length and dimensions though.
I put 2 old washing up bowls under the car (had to heighten it a bit with a jack). Then undone the lower rad hose and let it all pour out. Then remove all the other hoses, make sure youve got some decent pliers/mole grips to remove the old retaining clips. Watch the top pipes around the...
Assuming you mean the coolant bottle cap as the radiator itself doest have a filler cap. I think from Renault you have to buy the whole bottle. Its the same one on most other clios & renault even with different engines (except some 1.2 8vs) best to try a scrap yard.
The drivers side will come off without having to drain any oil. You can try separating it at the bottom ball joint and disconnecting the track rod but i doubt your suspension will allow for enough movement of the hub to get the shaft out.
Your right mikalor clips are better to use, theres not much chance of them tearing a silicone hose but as they are more perfectly round and apply the same amount of tightness all round the outside of the hose, they perform a better more reliable seal. Where jubilee clips are not perfectly...

If you dont want to loose your battery, then the best all round method (in terms of costs and gain) is a 172mk1,172mk2 airbox with samco bend and improved cold air feeds and dare a I say the original Renault filter..
Its easy with a press. They are very hard to get out of the front hubs as they are slightly tapered and the hubs usually rust quite badly. If its the passenger side make sure you dont let the driveshaft pop out.
My car looks completely standard (there cant be many standard looking 172mk1s left). Even the indicator lights are a nice orangey orange. I must admit though the temptation to modify is really hard to ignore, whether you can afford it or not!!
What condition is your filter in?? As a lot of people have aftermarket filters but dont clean them?? I would have thought if the timing was out by even a little it would be a lot less (approx 140hp).
It sounds like your abs is working fine, the light wont come on the dash unless theres a fault. If the wheel didnt lock and it stopped quick theres nothing to worry about. Did the pedal pulsate at all??
As for the bang it could be a few things, was if from the front or the rear??
The clutch release bearing problem is a common problem on all clios, it normally happens when releasing the clutch at high speed/changing gear 'hard' or when the clutch is not engaged. It could be the power steering pump but to be honest on the symptoms youve described I wouldnt worry about it...
