The sony rx100 is in a class if its own but and for me the killer was the slower zoom and lack of bokeh at the telephoto end. It can do some lovely close up wide angle bokeh though. iq wise it's excellent more dynamic range than a 5d mk3!!
I replaced it with a nex 5n and 3 sigma art primes and...
Just to be clear there's nothing wrong per say with cliche viewpoints, they just either need to be technically brilliant or offer something a little new:)
Car pictures are great as are the Baker Street station shots. Night photos aren't so great IMO, lacking in colour and appear a little dark and very overdone viewpoints without bringing anything new if that makes sense unlike the Baker Street shots which are more original.

Have you tried playing around with gels? The image of the bird against the wall on the FB page would look better if the wall was lit at an angle with a blue flash gel.
Eddie, to ensure lots of tiny stars appear in your image you need to 'max' out on available light so you must shoot wide open at 1.8. Across frame sharpness won't be great but thats of lesser importance in star photography.
To be honest a 500d isn't the best low light camera and you will need...
Mine went shopping whilst I had an hour to myself ;) I was lucky to get still water on the reflection pools because before and after my session the water was quite choppy!
