    First courtesy car... holy hell!

We all are - think how my father reacted when the loaner car for the R8 having some paint work done was a Daewoo Matiz... Just remember, nothing handles quite like a hire car ;)

The presumption that Renault will be on a par with Audi and Toyota.

    First courtesy car... holy hell!

Well there is your first mistake. Audi gave me a B class Merc when the S3 went in. The next time was an A4 (granted brand new, but I did take the R8 in for a service). Simple fact is they don't have to supply you with anything decent. If you actually put some thought into it, how will you feel...

I started on a Virgin Train once. Then arrived at my destination, had a beer and forgot all about it.

    First courtesy car... holy hell!

Yeah I took my Clio in a few years back and received an R8 as a courtesy car! Couldn't believe my luck! It was 10x better build, quicker and better looking than my 1.2 Clio. This thread is flat!

    New to detailing

It's up to you. I'm guessing you are polishing by hand by your first post. In which case you are very unlikely to remove all of the swirls. Therefore, a glaze with fillers (like Blackhole) will fill the remaining swirls and really augment the look of your paint.

I feel I must right the universe - I hate detailing.

    Protection for new paint

Clay, polish and seal the lot Emma. The polishing stage would give a good base for the sealant to take hold. http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/sealants/chemical-guys-blitz-spray-sealant/prod_227.html

Cerium Oxide, I think it is Richy. Type it into Detailing World. There is a thread in there on correction.
