Wouldn't need to be Aero grade, just some 3-4mm steel. It's not a race car, so weight isn't a massive worry, plus it wouldn't weigh all that much anyway.
This makes sense. Would just need a template to go off, and have someone cut the metal. although would need a couple of bends.
Sure there is some CAD master out there that feels like taking up the task. I'm sure they wouldn't cost much to fabricate.
"...my road legal track day Clio Sport weapon"
I actually laughed when I read this.
"...when the dephaser pulley alters the timing at 5000rpm, you really feel it kick"
And facepalmed when I read this.
OMP doesn't offer any prices, YB Racing is a still a rediculous price. I'm not paying that much for a piece of metal plate with some holes drilled in it. I'm sure there is a much more cost effective way of doing it.
Cheers for the link. That is extremely expensive for a piece of metal. Sure I could get something made up for a fraction of the price.
Suppose a good question to ask is if anyone has a diagram of the 172 subframe, or an idea of potentially where a sump guard could be bolted into place...
Done a little searching and I can see this has been raised a couple of times in the past few years, but none seemed to answer my question. From what I can grasp there is the option for a RenaultSport sump guard, but it's pricey. Also that OMP do one, but the link I found was dead.
I was...
IIRC all new cars sold after March 2011 have to be fitted with daylight running lights. LEDs are the most efficient in daylight.
EDIT: Cars sold in the European Union.
Well Mine is far from finished, and getting a full engine rebuild in a couple of months... but felt like contributing.
Please ignore the cutout in the bumper.
Re: Bren's Sunflower 172
Well we don't know. Was using coolant before the incident, considering I couldn't find a leak head gasket is one to consider. Shall just have to see when I get it back and run it for a while.
Re: Bren's Sunflower 172
Well, been a nerve racking few weeks waiting to see if the car will run. Just received word that the engine is running with no knocks or rattles. Had a few miles put on it, and it's running sweet. However there are a few things that have been noticed and will need...
Re: Bren's Sunflower 172
New sump and oil pump arrived in Ireland at the weekend. Recieved a message from my cousin stating that when he uncovered the smashed sump (covered it wiht bin liners to stop an oxidization) that a small amont of red liquid seemed to drip out. He seems to think it may...
Try leaning over the engine and revving it (if it's ph2 cable throttle) or ask a friend to rev it whilst you have a look around. If it's from the engine, likely it's dephaser as it kicks in at 1400rpm. if not then it'll be the heat sheild, they rattle all hte time as it's a tight squeeze.
from the rear of the car, or the engine... first thing that popped into mind was depasher. Bit depends on the noise, heatshield is common, just bend it away. The rear ones come loose, so you can just rip them off if they really annoy you. Another to check is that the bolt that holds the...
Get the rest of them polycarb windows in you lazy git!!
From looking at your engine pay I really want to relocate my battery so I can have my airbox sat straight... although I think there would still be a few things in the way. looks so much tidier.
Re: Bren's Sunflower 172
Yeah, it's not 'that' bad really, it's a relatively simple fix. I'm very surprised I didn't damage anything else to be honest. I'll be sure to inspect everything (or get my cousin to). when being towed home the car felt ok, but for obvious reasons I couldn't start the...
Not a spec of rust on mine.. the prices have hit rock bottom, they won't go nay lower for well maintained examples. Would be a long time until prices started to increase, and even then only if it's a rare example ;)
Mine gets used daily btw... just not at the moment as it's off the road for a...
Re: Bren's Sunflower 172
Well, the sunflower is currently residing in the West of Ireland whilst I write this from my office in Manchester. Had a 'slight' problem whilst on holiday.
Firstry, I went over to see family and attend my cousin's 21st birthday (I was born over there, and we gew up...
