    what’s behind the fogs

The only thing I can think off is that valve is closed when you cold start in really cold conditions so that warmer air is sucked from the second air duct which is drawing air higher up in the engine bay. I ran the car for a few weeks on the K&N before removing it but with the fabric duct...

    what’s behind the fogs

One of these by any chance? I had to remove it to get my 75mm ducting down to the lower front grill. Remember to remove the solenoid from it and plug it back in to keep the ECU happy and close off the end of the vacuum hose that goes back to the inlet manifold...

Eibach vs Coilover for 172 MK1

Fair dos mate. Their loss at the end of the day! Im sure companies like K-Tec will cotton on pretty soon and sell similar kits on the market so that they can be DIY fitted (for the mechanically proficient) or fitted by reputable tuning companies. Their camber bolts Im sure are just the start! I...

Eibach vs Coilover for 172 MK1

With respect, Falkland Performance (http://www.falkland.co.ukwww.falkland.co.uk) have been racing and developing their own cars, with success, mainly Cosworths and Scoobies now for two generations at Knockhill and other tracks throughout the UK. So I know they are more than qualified to fit and...

Eibach vs Coilover for 172 MK1

Sorry off thread..... but not all of us JJ172 can justify travelling down South to get your geometry kit fitted .:( Please reconsider a kit of parts so that my local performance centre can perform a fitment / similar test locally? There are others up here in Jockland that are very intested if...

Eibach vs Coilover for 172 MK1

Second Mikes comments! ;) Well pleased with my Eibachs (thanks again Mike for your recommendations) now although the drop is nothing dramatic . I had -40mm Evos which were great over smooth surfaces but bottomed out and screwed the handling out on the "B" roads. There is more to handling than...

    bonding carbon fibre panels

Rhys, about £8 for the 1mm steel, about £15 for the Reno rubber seals, £30 for the pipercross 75mm air duct kit, £65 for the heat resistant foil (ouch but nesessary), £20 for paint, gas welder & brazing rods and a good few hours in the garage while the wife was busy watchin Emmerdale...

    bonding carbon fibre panels

Cheers Bondy and philip. If you were "man" enough then louvres or a duct in the bonnet would probably be better. Although I think personally that would spoil the front profile of the car. Also from past experience on another car, in a previous life, I found that the filter was flooded with water...

So god damn typical...just my luck

Sorry to hear your sad news mate. Would be gutted if that happened to me. To be honest its probably better to be declared a write off. With that level of damage (as you describe) it has probably bent the chassis so would never be quite right in the handling dept afterwards. Good news .... you...

    A picture for everyone :-)

Dig the new "shiney bit" and the forward sloping radiators! All cramed up at the front and all that space at the top of the engine bay! So have they had the engine running yet? All looking pretty good so far. I bet theres been hours of head scratching over that project so far! :)

    Lowering

Didnt think 02 models had torsion bars at the rear but were fitted with springs all round? You will need lowered springs all round me thinks;)

    Carzone Spoiler Trouble

You could probably try and source shorter boot struts as these are what limit the tailgate movement, although the Clio ones are already pretty short. Or move the lower mounting points of the existing damper a bit lower and seal up the old holes (assuming you can get access from behind to fix a nut?

    bonding carbon fibre panels

Hi Philip, I actually used a long thick welding rod and bent it to the same profile (inside) the bonnet. If you then place it from bulkhead to slam panel across the engine bay on the rubber sealing strips you can guage the correct height. I must have got it right as I now have a box shape...

    bonding carbon fibre panels

Philip, make sure you make up a cardboard prototype first so that you can guage how it is going to fit. Pain in the ass but a worthwhile exercise especially if you are paying someone to do the job for you. I did this with mine and made up the panels straight from the carboard templates before I...

Is there a legal limit on exhaust noise

The SVA tests for a kit car are less than 101 dBA at 0.5m from the exhaust outlet(s). So this must give some idea regards road legal noise requirements?

    KTR RAMCHARGER INDUCTION KIT

Thanks for confirming that Roamer. So where does the cold air come from i wonder? So whens the big day mate (TB Day)? Looking forward to seeing the pictures of this install .... and how long your front tyres will NOT last! LOL

    K-Tec are GREAT!

Cheers Cuppy. Not sure about the Cup spoiler as that has extra flaring compared to the 172. You would need to confirm this with K-Tec. If not you could source a 2nd hand 172 spoiler and fit it that way.

    K&N Trouble

Does one of the air feed pipes come from the exhaust manifold area? If so there is probably a flap valve or somit that opens this pipe when the engine is cold to draw in warmer air. When the engine heats up the flap will close this pipe and draw air from the other cold feed pipe. Not sure but...

    K-Tec are GREAT!

Cheers Robb for the comments! Regards the badge, I basically removed it, filled the holes from behind, touched them up with Reno touchup base coat and laqueur, then stuck the SPORT badge strategically over where the holes were. Bobs yer uncle!

    LOWERING SPRINGS

The AVO -40mm look good but on bumpier roads tend to bottom out on the 172/2. Recently got Eibach Pros to replace them which have minimal lowering but transform the stability and handling. The -40mm springs as admits says improve the turn in probably due to the lower C of G and the increased...
