Incidently, the bottom interface on the "mystery" valve assembly is "female" as if another pipe section should be plugged in there. Im sure if you mated a similar diameter pipe to the bottom of the valve to underneath the car (pointing forwards), or to the bottom grill area you would push cold...
There are indeed two feeds, one which takes air just behind the NS headlight and the other which takes air below the NS headlight unit .... but via the "mystery" vacuum operated valve (which is open most of the time). It would appear that Reno dont even know what this valve does. A few on here...
My Missus has a 96 1.9D with 200K miles on it .....noisy but still going strong! Only major things that needed replacing since new were radiator, heater matrix and a diesel injector. Oh, and the original exhaust eventually gave in at 180K!
Rob,
The Supercharger is continuously driven at full boost speed for the given engine speed. This offers almost immediate boost response
The Supercharger exhibits an airflow delivery characteristic very close to the engine requirement. Thus, boost remains almost constant over the total...
Its the exhaust itself cooling down and not the heatshields. These noises disappeared completely when I fitted the Magnex. My mates Cup is also quiet now on cool down with a K-Tec fitted (feckin loud at other times!). Reckon the standard exhaust is noisy on cool down due to it being a one-piece...
I normally use Autoglym. Apply with a brush and leave for 10 mins and hose off. I also use Autoglym Super Gloss polish on my standard 172 wheels, so the brake kak doesnt stick the same to the wheels.
WTF ...... we start of a sensible thread about headlights and end up with gay talk. Gee, this forum is strange at times LOL :). And before you say, Im happily married to my good wife!
When I had mine lowered -40mm I noticed that my CD occasionally skipped. Has been fine since I reverted to more sensible and better Eibachs. I now hardly use the CD and just listen to my Magnex backing vocals. But when I do it has to be the Bee Gees (Paddy, Cliff Richard and S-Club 7 are so...
Doing just nicely in this heat thanks! ;) Im saving my pennies at the mo for my Unichip. The Scottish Dastek dealer is about to open his new premises later this month.
Regardless of what some say, looks nice mate. Ive had Remus systems before and liked them. If you have enough space available over your rear axle beam maybe Elite can move the whole system forward a tad and tuck that tailpipe in a wee bit. But then again do you really want to hide it, thats why...
Shorty mate, if your talking about the standard 172 exhaust, the best thing you can do is bin it, save your pennies and get yourself a decent K-Tec or Magnex CAT back. What you describe sounds like the stanadrd system baffle problem (4K rattle). The after market systems sound much better (as...
I second my fellow zorst anoraks (Mike) comments re noise :p. They do get queiter after a few hundred miles or so. Just a slight tendancy to be boomy at 70 if on a climb or accelerating. Put it this way, I very rarely listen to my CDs these days.... the Magnex is music to the ears! It also helps...
The recirculation button is also great when stuck behind the 30 year old non-eco friendly no.9 bus!! They reckon a ungfull of that stuff is equivqlent to 40 fags!
Chris I think you need to take yours along to Reno and get the whole climate system/operation checked out. It doesnt sound normal...
Rhys, well spotted. I had a temporary RS Components temperature guage with the sensor positioned as seen in the picture. I did tests a while back when the ambient was in the mid twenties. I put the sensor next to the wing mirror sensor and found the difference between the RS and the dash...
Mike when I seen your picture above you got me intrigued. So being a fellow anorak I just had too shoot up one of my 3.5" tailpipes (with the camera of course!). Result below;

The two tailpipes are joined by a "Y" pipe section...
Rhys, tried to email you but got bounced. Anyway heres a picture of the MK2 1600 battery plate.

If you can use this or do something similar using sheet alloy, you can profile it with the inside of the bonnet, maybe also put...
Ill try and do the picture tomoz. The silver hose is a Green Filter 75mm hose from Halfords (~£11). The PiperX Ramair kit (~£30) was from Demon Tweaks. I fabricated a steel inline coupling to join the two tubes together behind the NS headlamp. I used one of the "bellends" from the PiperX kit and...
If you had got the full CAT back system you would have been free of the dreaded 172 4k rattle and also you wouldnt get that annoying "tinging" sound when you stop/idle after a fast run. If doing a job why do it in halfs? The Magnex is a quality piece of kit and worth the money for a full system...
Soaps, there is apparently a gland plate thingy behing the airbags on the steering wheel. This was "creaking" on my 1.6. Ive heard similar noises on the 172 but not so loud, like a quiet buzzing noise when you turn the s/wheel quickly at lower parking speeds. Now that they have changed it all is...
If you can fill in the frame assembly that is to the left hand of the battery you will segregate the hot air from the engine. You will probably not need the heat shield over the K&N then. The lesser models have a solid panel instead of the frame assembly (as on my 1.6). I can give you a picture...
If youre willing to travel 20 miles I would highly recommend my dealer, Glenvargills in Dunfermline. Being a Cliosport member if you show them your card you will get a 15% discount. Ive treated them with respect and they have given me a good service in return. 01383 556100 and ask for either...
Luuuuuurrvvly:D The debadging and BB bonnets look cool in that colour. Surprised that you didnt get rid of the rubbing strips on the doors? Anyway, great to see the "older" cars getting restored to this high standard. Well done that man ..... enjoy!!
I reckon that Reno will be punting their money in the Megane department from now on. New design and new concept. The Va Va Voom advert is about to see an even bigger chile. The RS Megane is soon to hit the streets with 220 bhp or thereabouts. You see a megane advert just about every night on the...
