It sounds awesome- the vee is a hard beast to drive quickly into bends- but i have only had it a week and a bit- never driven a mid engine RWD car before.
Fair tbh, but i found that the ride is no worse then my 197 cup, it is a lot harder to carry the same sort of speed in corners as 197 but you have to drive it differently. The noise is awesome and imo found it actually quieter at motorway speeds then my cup.
Parking and leaving it anywhere i...
Surprising review, i test drove a 200 before getting the vee, the engine and throttle response imo were much improved over the 197, the gearbox was good, only downside is i felt it needed the recaro's. As for been slow, i had to push the vee close to the limiter to catch up with a lad over on RS...
Just done exactly what your thinking of, went from a 197 cup to LY255 V6. Mine is averaging around 25MPG, if you have the 5 year cambelt service done at a dealers your looking at best part of £1000, tyres- if you stick to pilot sports- which after a run to scarborough are brilliant cost you...
Super for me, no reason apart from the 197 really was sluggish on 95 ron- even the dealer admitted this, and same for the vee, only because previous owner always ran it on v-power- i've seen the receipts too!
Deciding factor is what you can afford and feel comfortable with- to me it makes...
Iirc the 172 had the same height adjustment as the old meg coupes, which basically to higher would require you to be out of the car and to pull the lever, and to lower be sitting- very annoying and the new pump systems offer more accurate adjustments. Can't help with the rattle. The fan you talk...
I would contest that, for one in similar condition, i think it was on an 04 plate was £15K. Never accept the first offer they make, just send them a few adds of similar mileage/age V6's to prove point.
Tbh my 197, which had one of the newer gear boxes got stuck at 29.9, could get it to 32MPG but got bored.
As for the OP question i would go for the 182 or 197- if you want more extreme fun then 182 for you, test drove both a cooper s and works and didn't like either- bang for buck the clios...
Best way to work it out is to take a note of the miles you have done since the last fill up, use the amount of fuel used to fill the tank and turn into gallons (remember UK not US), do some maths and get the true MPG.
I think to put this into context my vee manages 26MPG- bearing in mind i am putting it through its paces as i have only had it a week, just shows how poor the 197 is on fuel but i am glad for the year i spent owning one and the way it held its value sure made getting the vee easier.
Test drove all bar the trophy and imo the 197 cup is better then the cooper s, i just found the cooper s felt slow and boring. But maybe i test drove it after having he cup for so long that i just needed a bigger step up hence the Vee. But let me put it like this, test drove an S3, cooper s and...
Easy, setup standing order on pay day and budget in for £x amount into savings account, end up with nice amount of money and be patient! Just think, £200 a month and 18 months down the line £3600 which is in the territory of 172's.
And remember its not buying a cars that impacts monthly...
iirc someone was raving about them on the rs forum the other day saying he does not look back. I always stuck with the contis as i was comfortable with them and did exactly what i needed them too, bit pricey but didn't want to risk changing- costly mistake on my previous 172.
Trip says anywhere between 29.9 and 32.6, my trip is generally 2MPG conservative and costs about £55 to fill up with super from empty, although the (my) V6 which i test drove was showing 28.8MPG on the trip- although i am sure a few blasts of that V6 will sort that out.
Been looking into getting a LY V6 only thing that stops me putting down a deposit is the cost next year for cambelt etc, had a bit of a deal of cost but still a hell a lot of money.
I think i need to re-test drive the clio 200, didn't like it compared to my 197 cup, obviously like the better gear box and the extra bit of power but didn't like the way it handled, felt it could not control its body roll, but then again my cup has recaros the demonstrator never, but seats...
Tesco 99, never tried anything else, now the cups on 14K getting around an indicated 3MPG more then i did when new, noticed the difference in price too, was 118.9 a litre when i first got the cup last year!
Only problem i have with my 197 is a slight rattle from the glove box which i found out yesterday was coming from the set of locking wheel nut key/bolts i have in there.
