Just spoken to my mechanic and its the autonator. Its burnt out which is why its smelling bad. Only done 36k so that seems a bit pants really. Not happy with the price of a new one, going to be around £200 + labour etc. Oh well what can i do apart from cry lol.

For about the last 6 months this hasn’t really been working, most of the time it shows 60c on the dash and then it just turns itself off and occasionally flashes back up every now and then. About once a week it will flash up with the correct temperature for about 5seconds and then it disappears...

Yeah they will fit. To get the black bit out just pull it with some force, its quite stiff but should just pop out
