The contact patch is slightly larger with a larger wheel, it has length as well as width, imagine a segment of the wheel and the 17's will look to have less curvature.
The thing most people are missing is rotational inertia, smaller wheels will normally be lighter anyway but the larger wheels...

My thinking was that as I've a few lenses with different filter sizes I'll actually save money in the long run by using the cokin.
I've ended up using the z-pro, as it's the only thing close to being wide enough to use with the 10-20. Even with that, if I'm down to 12-13 I'm starting to see the frame in the corners of the picture.
If you've not seen them yet, Kood do cheaper filters that fit the Cokin holders too.
I don't know with the vee boxes, but I've seen a few people posting on here saying the 1*2 boxes are much longer lasting than people seem to think.
