Yep it's knock sensor. You should have a fault code logged for "Knock Sensor Voltage Abnormal" or similar if you read the codes via OBD2 although it may have cleared if you've done a few miles since plugging it back in.
If nothing has broken with it unplugged it definately won't with it...
Agree! Race tape it and jobs a good un. Having had R3's come out of stage with bits of block missing and X85s roll and carry on running I can safely say the F4R is a pretty tough old lump. If it's not dropping fluids just bodge it up so nothing can get to the belt and forget about it.
Do you mean the large oval "pipe" that sticks up out of the strainer plate? If so you can just leave it open, it doesn't actually do anything once the stock manifold is removed, if you follow the pipework back off the end of the plate you'll see what I mean. The crank case breather is on the...
Breather you have three options, 1) Catch tank, 2) Open Breather, 3) Recirc into the back of the filter plate. All three work well but a catch tank is the ideal solution.
Jay it's worth noting that your throttles are a very early set and the throttle cable setup and return spring strength have...
Bell me before you pop over to collect the bits you've ordered as I have various F1 cams, valvetrain bits etc. at home that you will want to have a butchers at if you appreciate a good bit of DLC ;)
Issue is if you wish to race in a certain Championship (say BTCC) you have to meet the regulations for that serious, in the past that almost always meant a big spend on engines!
Yes. We use it extensively for cams, buckets, piston skirts and crank/main bearings and occasionaly for valve stems. Exhaust stem DLC coating is a serious art though!
A bit of interesting info from my archives on the Sodemo F7R:
"Sodemo built ("Sodemo was created in 1981 as the engine side of Snobeck Racing Services")
F7R engine, also used in the GpA Renault 19, Clio Williams, Clio Maxi & Megane Maxi
320bhp
"Renault engine production in Cleon, Sodemo...
Clio cup car stuff are not up to the task. These components are designed to do 20 min sprint races. The ST75 box is rated to 190ftlbs and will not deal with anything sustained at this level with reliability, especially with an input shaft speed above 9000RPM. We have built three winning 24hour...
300bhp on an engine dyno = £30K.
300bhp with a warranty, tested rebuild interval (which means you destroy another engine validating that rebuild interval), workshop and track side support to install the engine, packaged to fit a specific bay with all carbon and loom work done to a...
If Paul says it's fine then trust him but I'd still be nervous. The issue we saw on the Evo was oil climbing past the windage trays and getting onto the crank in volume which caused "interesting" things to occur. With anything like this you have to trust the designer though as afterall they're...
What sensor it is doesn't matter, introduce noise onto either side of the signal and the ECU (both stock and/or aftermarket) will loose sync. The anomolies per cycle need to remain constant for sync to be maintained. This noise can be as simple as a poor crimp or failing solder joint.
It's an inductive sensor Danny and you are splitting the signal between two controllers. Whilst the stock ECU will only run the rev counter/fuel pump from this signal the Omex will still need to acquire and maintain a good sync, as the signal is differential it's extremely important that the...
Make sure you perform a proper crimp. Solder and insulated bullet connectors are not acceptable ways of splicing a crank sensor signal. A Raychem inline crimp with an adhesive lined shrunk outer is a much more robust option. The Crank sensor is the most important sensor on the engine so don't...
Yes you can see the CPS mount in the end plate photo you posted. The flywheel/clutch assembly on the FR2.0 meant that a flywheel based crank trigger was a no go.
Jerkiness was mainly down to bombers cheap chinese map sensor moving in 100mbar chunks rather than progressively sweeping up/down with manifold pressure. DON'T BUY CHINESE SENSORS ON EBAY CHAPS!!! ;)
Very wise. One of the Evo tuners purchased one of our dry sump kits, stuck it on their car (with a longitudinal engine install not transverse) and wondered why they had constant oil control issues (oil climbing past the windage tray etc). With a dry sump setup you have a bit of leeway with...
Not in a FWD hatch it doesn't unless you want to spin the engine round and RWD it or get into chopping it up to move the scavenges to a position suitable for a transverse engine install. In the FR the engine is longitudinally mounted with the gearbox on the back hence under high lateral G...

They should do circa 30MPG mixed driving with our kit, I think the above works out about 32MPG so sounds spot on to me. :-)
PM me for prices but not cheap. IIRC the rockers come in at over a grand, DLC coating alone is £350 as essentially they're 32 bits not 16 as the roller and arm require seperate coating operations. Do you really need another 200RPM that much? ;)
Re: Dave.'s Trumpeted Engine Spec, Cammed Up Gunit, 2118'd Carbon Vagina Boob obsessi
I'm running R1-Rs at the moment which I'm very impressed with, much better wet performance than an 888 with very decent dry grip.
You don't need solid lifters for 8200RPM but what you do need is sensible life on the roller rockers. They don't last long above 8000RPM and 8500RPM is the absolute limit for them. We have uprated ones with a DLC coating that last longer but still only rated for 1000KMs of race use in the S2000...
Well no ones ever ran one in a road car, the lifes are based on the kind of dutycycle a race engine would see so entirely possible they'd last the life of the car on the road just pootling about. The last 1000RPM is what increases the wear rates significantly so run a 7500RPM limit and they'd...
Re: Dave.'s Trumpeted Engine Spec, Cammed Up Gunit, 2118'd Carbon Vagina Boob obsessi
Trust you ;) Your rad, airbox, slam panel etc. cost more to fab than one of our complete kits!!
Re: Dave.'s Trumpeted Engine Spec, Cammed Up Gunit, 2118'd Carbon Vagina Boob obsessi
Longer trumpets will show a gain at lower RPM but then you're into fitting a short rad, loosing the aircon, fitting bonnet pins etc. etc.
You can't have your cake and eat it unfortunately so this package...

No probs chap give us a tinkle when it's ready to go and we'll get you in.
PPS or TPS fault. On DBW Clios there are two PPS and two TPS sensors, if any of these fail the ECU will go into reduce performance mode and limit throttle body opening to avoid an uncommanded acceleration failure. If another TPS or PPS fails the body will revert to sprung centre/fail safe and...
