Blimey, 1st 100 in the queue at the London launch got a free 46" HD TV!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6474045.stm
How chuffed would you be at that!
Lol yes it can! And if you buy the whole lot (console, wi fi, HD dvd etc) in one go you can get all manner of deals in the high st even from the main High St stores, you don't even really need to shop around to get a good deal!!! The only issue I found is the shortage of HD DVD drives but that...
True and I'll admit a patch cable isnt as good as Wi Fi! Still, how much HDD space does a console need? I've never used anymore than 2gb! HDMI is really a moot point. I've yet to see a major difference between HDMI and composite on hi def signals.
I agree the release prices were different, but when buying now, my post reflected the prices on offer to the consumer which is what its all about. My point is you cannot say that today, a same spec (roughly) 360 costs as much as a ps3...
You can get the HD DVD add on for £99, and why pay £59.99 for a Wi Fi adaptor when you can get a ethernet patch cable for £6 (admittidly, not as flash as Wi Fi but does the job!). I've also seen the premium packs for as little as £240 so that knocks off about £127 off the above. In reality...
Most HD TVs on the market have screen resolutions of 1280 x 720 (up to 720p).
Only the very expensive ones have screens of 1920 x 1080 (up to 1080p). So unless you have a screen res of 1920 x 1080 there's no point in selecting 1080 i / p as the screen will downscale it to a 720 res anyway...
Maybe the update was dodgy, but if it was causing so many problems, would Microsoft really produce another update to correct the initial one using the same file name so the consoles wouldnt recognise it? A GCSE IT student would know that would cause issues! A little hard to believe that...
This issue was around way before COD3 and GOW!
Probally co-incidence... Generally, the ones which needed to go back to Microsoft (ie 3 lights or more) were hardware failures due to overheating.
Overclocking has never come into it (and I dont believe you can achieve a proper overclock with a software update) - the 360 was designed for the likes of GOW. It was simply to do with a cooling issue oversight by Microsoft which has been resolved with consoles under 6 months old.
Yeah, RF is rubbish, better off using a piece of string.
Have you tired swapping the scart cables around? Just thinking thats the only thing that hasn't been tried, maybe the cable running from the DVD player to the TV, or the cable between the cable box and the DVD might not be capable of...
It could be that the DVD recorder's socket isnt RGB enabled (which shouldnt happen). It seems its losing the RGB / component in going through the recorder. Is this set to RGB too?
Ah I see. Personally, I'd buy a scart adapter (like the one above, though there are cheaper ones around) and run all the SD stuff through AV1. High def TVs are geared up mainly for HD so seem to skimp on the quality SD connections.
He wont need high def as he doesnt have a high def source (see his previous thread - and a component cable will gove you high def anyway).
You are right in that only one scart will be a 'good' scart as one of them will be RGB capable and the other will be a normal scart. RGB is superior to a...
As a games machine, the PS3 is a year old too, the only difference is it was mothballed for a year as they couldnt get BlueRay to work properly on it!!
I thought the 360 upscaled it anyway no matter what connection its running, as long as its outputting a 720p + signal?
My DVDs certainly look a lot sharper when played through the 360 on component than on my stand alone DVD player on RGB.
This is old news, and I dont see what the issue is?
HDMI and HD on composite will look identical.
The current xbox 360 can now output 1080P through the update everyone on xbox live will now have recieved (check out the menu, 1080p is now selectable) not that most have a 1080p tv anyway...
Its not hard to protect your system, you can go to PC World and buy McAfee 2007 (which does pretty much everything you need and updates every day) or Norton for around £30.
SONY FANBOY ALERT!
Lacks a killer game??????? Have you had your head in the sand over the last 12 months, it has loads!
PGR3, as said, you must have played it on a rubbish TV cos it looks pretty awesome, how can you say Gears is too short if you've only 'played it on a mates' (tbh it isnt -...
^^^^^^^^ Completely disagree. Playing COD 3 with a 360 pad is secnond nature to me now, so much so a keyboard and mouse seems laughable! All the controls you need are at your fingertips.
I used to play FPS on my PC, but got fed up with buying some games, only to find they wouldnt work as a...
Scart RGB is a million times better than s-video. Use a scart lead and set the source up as RGB and the difference is amazing.
Most TVs have two scart sockets, one that accepts RGB and one which is for the normal signal. Make sure the scart is plugged into the RGB enabled scart socket, which...
Lol, they've both won awards, ironically the current Samsung bunch won a recent EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association) award for, and I quote;
"its premium display technology in terms of contrast ratio (5000:1), color expression (6.44 billion colors, 92% color gamut) , viewing angle...
^^^ hmmm, not convinced as the current Samsung LCDs are reknowned for the improved depth and definition thanks to higher contrast ratios... Horses for courses though.
In actual fact, the all panels on various makes of TV are essentially the same, and are made by, as you say, only a few key...
Well, this is the definition of 'contrast ratio' in this context;
"The contrast ratio is a metric of a display system, defined as the ratio of the luminosity of the brightest and the darkest color the system is capable of producing. High contrast ratio is a desired aspect of any display, but...
That Samsung is a supurb set, though. My mate has the Samsung and the picture is one of the best I've seen, I'd say better than another friends overpriced Sony Bravia (or whatever they're called).
That Tosh is a good set, and a 37" for that price is rather good, though the contrast ratio is...
720P = perfect for most screens with a 1,280 x 720 resolution (720 lines progressively scanned, most screens below 37")
1080P = perfect for most screens with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution (1080 lines progressively scanned, most screens above 37").
So does this mean essentially a 32" LCD/Plasma...
Nice. Though the current 360 is capable of 1080p, which is now selectable on the display menu after a recent software update via live. Has anyone tired this?
Also, read this on a reliable HD review site;
"There’s a lot of talk going round at the moment about 1080p compatibility and the fact...
